A member on another camaro site was asking me what i thought about the deal below.
I think the numbers look great...but as in that other thread i asked about golen...im not really a fan of theirs.
7500 sounds about right for the long block..when i compare it to my build which was higher with my top end.
Check out the ad and im gonna link him here...maybe if he is not a member he will join our fantastic community.
Keep in mind...hes not a racer...but he does like the "bragging rights" of saying..."yeah i have a 396."
Kinda like me. Lol
Here is the ad, ill remove contact info so no one sweeps it out from under him:
THANKS ALL!

Is this a new kit or used? To me it looks news. Couple of questions? Why such bigger cc. They don't mention compression ratio. I personally think the injectors are too small.

Oh I missed it. Lol
I've never bought a built engine. I built mine. But all the stuff listed and accounting the labor that went into it. It sounds like a good deal.
Larry I'm the guy that asked your thoughts on the 396! The seller got back to me. He has had the engine two years, never started and no warranty. I only use my vert for Sunday drives and Friday nights on Woodward. This winter I'm working on paint and installing the Ultra z hood, spoiler, quad exhaust tips.
My original plan...freshen up the engine next winter and install ai heads and cam combo.
But now I'm thinking before putting the ultra z badges on I should do the engine now and the last few months I'm thinking 396.
Ultra Z 396 convertible. Has an old school ring to it.

Cool, sorry I didnt realize it was you... screen names have a tendency to run together....
The members here will be really helpful.
ONE QUESTION THOUGH.. have you contacted GOLEN to see what this exact build would cost you now.

The thing that worries me is the fact that is has been sitting for 2 years, If the assembly lube broke down and gummed up, you could be tearing it apart and freshing it up.

Never thought of that and the could be light surface rust on the cylinder walls.

I would question the heads. LT4's are 195CC unported, though the ad says fully ported.

Does it make a difference that they are TRICK FLOWs?

yeah i used my last name on the other site. That's what coworkers and friends call me so it's a habit... I'll try and change it on other site.
I was going to call Golen and ask a few questions this week. The seller will need to come down a little before i make a move on it, or i'll just wait and build one next winter. Thanks for the help man!

NO SWEAT man.... told you this site will be your place to find out what you need. Let us know what you hear from GOLEN, and see what they think about the condition of one of their motors that has been sitting for years.

TRICK FLOW LT4 FULL PORT
Yes. The standard Trick Flow heads area 195cc head out of the box, un ported. Ported, they get much bigger (mine are 218cc). Makes a pretty big difference.

Personally I would never run one from them. There is a history of machining problems and clearence and tolerence issues. For that kind of $$ it is being sold for it is a huge gamble I wouldn't take. Look into Golen engine problems on the boards or maybe google will pull it up easier. Has been talked about a lot over the years.
