So i was looking at some head light conversions since the stock head lights suck ass. but not wanting to spend 650 on the BLS kit.
So has any one used the Hawksthirdgen HID conversion-

Apples and oranges. Those that you linked are not bi-xenon HID projector housings -- they appear to just be regular reflector housings with HID bulb sockets affixed to them. They'll be brighter than the craptastic stock lights, but my guess is that they will spill light everywhere (including other driver's eyes), rather than having the fine cutoff and even spread that a true HID projector housing provides. Perhaps someone who has used them can comment on the veracity of that statement.
Also, I would never personally buy 10000K bulbs listed in that ebay listing. Those will probably look solid blue/purple, and will provide less luminosity than a lower-kelvin bulb. If memory serves, the highest luminosity occurs around 4300K (pure white). 6000K is white with a blue/aqua tinge and provides slightly less luminosity -- I wouldn't personally exceed 6000K. Of course, the ballast wattage will affect the color tone of the bulb -- from what I've seen, higher wattage effectively shifts the kelvin scale down. For instance, 6000K may look bluish on a 35w ballast, yet pure white on a 55w ballast.
I understand the cost concern. BLS is expensive, but purchasing the components themselves probably costs $300-400+ (depending on what components are used), and then you have to come up with your own retrofitting solution (projector mounting / custom lens cover / wiring / etc.). It probably wouldn't be worth starting a business if you're only making $20 profit for what I'm sure took some money and many hours of trial-and-error to produce.
But I'm no expert -- do what you want to do. This is just advice.

A lot of guys on the v6 forums have something called euro light housings? I'm a 98-02 style fellow so idk, but to chime in, 1. EBay is hit or miss. I actually have. 30$ eBay kit of 894 bulbs and ballasts and they have given me no issues. They are 10,000k but are mostly white with a hint of blue. Id guess more like 8k-ish. But have heard of too many people with crappy results from eBay 2. I have/had 6000k in 35w in my 9006 bulb and it is nothing but white to me. I see zero blue but maybe when my h1 5000k get here I'll see a difference, and tres, (that's three in Spanish), 4. I've found you get what you pay for.

I know ebay is hit or miss and thats why i never just hit buy now, this kit is made by Hawksthirdgen, which usually sells very good stuff.
"You get what you pay for" is one of the most over used phrases ever and owning a LT1 we all know how it goes.
What im getting at if this can make my light out put easily 50% more why not give it a try, and if all is wrong is the 10K bulbs im sure i can buy different ones if i don't like these.
Thanks for the input.

You are much better off putting silve rtstar bulbs in your current housing. The most useable light will be gained at a temperature of 4300k. The bluer the color only strains your eyes and causes trouble for other drivers. Do not purchase this set it will be a waste of your time unless you just want to be cool

i bought and installed the hawksthirdgen hid conversion kit and love it. yes it is ordered through ebay but not an ebay product. Hawks just put their products on ebay for more sales. but anyways the hid kit works great it was easy to install comes with the headlight housing with the bulbs and wiring plugs up directly to the original harness very easy. they have gave me no problems and definetly brightened up the view over the stock lights. overall i think its a great kit especially for 130 bucks. its a 10k bulb but isnt too blue heres a pic of my car with the kit in broad daylight. this is at night time. mine is the 2nd from left next to the catfish lol

Thank you 96 SS, your car looks bad ass and the lights look alot brighter.
Chris, this has nothing to do with being "Cool" but more to be safe and come home to my family if i decide to have a fun night in mexico. I've been in this game for 10 years and have played with putting bulbs in the stock housing and was never happy with how they turn out.
Thanks for the input guys.

You won't be happy with putting hids in a reflector housing either. Been there done that. Most people will notice an improvement over their old factory bulbs. Fact of the matter is you get projectors with a holgeon or xenon bulb or you have scattered light from a reflector housing. You may have been in the game doing this for years but I have studied and done research on this subject.

I see what your saying and yes it does make sense with being the housing does reflect the light, im wondering if taking the housing apart and painting the inside black and try and stop that reflection of the light and concentrate out of the housing.

Its just the overall way projectors work is what prevents the light splaying out.
And sorry I didn't actually click on the eBay link you posted. I bought my housings (made by spyder) from eBay via they carID store due to 10% off and free shipping. I was refering to straight up eBay kits for 30 dollars. And when it comes to HIDs, the you get what you pay for is true. A reliable vendor makes all the difference. I would imagine hawks sells good products. Never bought lights but they are good. Have had good results with vvme. And heard good things about DDM
If you are looking for straight up better visibility, get something in between 4300k and 6000k. Even if 10k doesn't look very blue, its still over 30% less light output than 4300. I've had 6000k and loved em. Currently waiting for my 5000k's to get here.
