i know this has been beat to death, and i have searched and searched, but i need real recent opinions on header gaskets. backround: got a set of used pacesetter lt's, checked flange and it was straighter than a homophobe, head was perfectly clean and flat (car had shorties on it), put them on with mr gasket copper's with the o-rings around the ports, torqued them down properly from middle two bolts out doing the 2 pass method. start it up and had massive leaks at the 2 center ports on both sides. pulled gaskets out and you could see the top of the o-ring slipped inside the header. reseated them and tried again, same thing.

so now i had a set of percy's deadsoft square ports laying around for the nova, and i threw them on. drivers' side no leaks, passenger side still leaks at the number 6 primary but number 4 does not. im getting new arp bolts with a smaller head so i stop stripping the hex off. what gaskets should i try next? i have heard alot of good things about felpro 1406's and also the percys for the lt1.

suggestions please!

I loved my Percy's. Can pull the header and put it back on with the same gasket and no leaks. But they are hard to find right now. Last we looked their site was down and summit or no one had any of their stuff in stock.

summit has them in stock, list them as d-port for lt1 but doesnt come up for our car. i had similiar problems ordering o2 extensions until i realized the caspers are the same they just list them as universal or mitsubishi. i think im gonna order up a set. i did swap em in the car just unbolted collector, supported them a little with a jack so they would move easier, and left the end bolts in and pulled the valvecover. my buddy has felpro 1406's at his autozone he said i could try and if they dont work i can return them.

I've rocked the felpro gaskets that come in the standard sbc rebuild kit for quite a while. I bought the same Mr gasket copper ones way back and they leaked instantly.

The design of lt1 header bolt holes just doesn't properly clamp down the metal gaskets in my opinion. Probably needs a thicker flange and better bolt locations.

Anyways the sbc felpros work great. The arp 5/16 bolts let you actually tighten the header properly as well.

Using pacesetters with Felpro 1406's here, no leaks on stock and Trick Flow heads.

sweet those are the 0nes i ordered. i was really suprised that the deadsofts, albeit for a different head style, still leaked as much as they do. those things were thicker than hell and still seem pretty thick compressed

I also used the 1406's, but I went ahead and drilled .040 holes through the heads of the ARP bolts and safety wired all of them, Never had an issue and never had to re tighten the bolts..
