Looks like we may need an LT4 gen 5 subsection soon....

http://gmauthority.com/blog/2012/09/chevy-camaro-to-receive-supercharged-lt4-v8-engine-2015-will-be-more-powerful-than-zl1/

I may hold off on a c7.....

Chevy Camaro To Receive Supercharged “LT4″ V8 Engine By 2015, Will Be More Powerful Than ZL1 http://0.gravatar.com/avatar/22a6463ce7b75195038da97de701d7d6?s=40&d=&r=G by Manoli Katakis (http://gmauthority.com/blog/author/manoli/)

http://gmauthority.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Corvette-C7-CAD-Engine-2-582x436.jpg
Within the same Corvette Forum (http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c7-general-discussion/3135114-well-ok-here-is-some-more-info.html) thread that posted leaked CAD engine bay renderings of the Corvette C7 and other images, there was a blurb from the same user that uploaded the renderings regarding the Chevrolet Camaro (http://gmauthority.com/blog/category/chevrolet/camaro/). If it is to be believed, the Camaro will be receiving a supercharged version of the fifth-generation small-block V8 engine — rumored to be called “LT4″. As a bonus, the engine will also be shared with a high(er) performance version of the upcoming C7 Corvette.
According the the user, who is highly reputable within the forum’s community, the engine will be an “upgrade of Camaro ZL1 (http://gmauthority.com/blog/2012/08/2012-chevrolet-camaro-zl1-review/) with more hp.” Sounds pretty mighty, considering the ZL1 currently punches out 580 horsepower via a 6.2L supercharged LSA engine. But will the ZL1 name stick? Or is this paving the way for the likes of a Z28 (http://gmauthority.com/blog/2012/09/general-motors-trademarks-z28-name-chevrolet-camaro/)? As we like to say here on GMA, only time will tell.

As awesome as that is, does anyone else see something odd with the fact they seem to be giving the newest designs to the Camaro before the Corvette now? It was always vette-first in the past and then it trickled down into the Camaros. The C7 took away the new tail light styling of the Camaro and now the LT4 is going into a Camaro before a Vette lol. Just strikes me a bit odd.

My guess is its already in the works for the C7 ZR1, they have just kept it more hush hush.....

You think we'll see a limited run of Gen-5 LT5s for the ZR1s?

I dont know if limited...

I just think that before the end of the year, we will hear about the LT4 in the new C7 ZR1,

and the ZL1 will be the one carrying this "detuned" engine in 2015.

I'm also a bit confused on one of the comments on that page. Someone said the Z28 is ranked higher than the SS? I always thought that was reversed - ZL1, SS, Z28, RS, base?

LOL... I dont even pay attention to that anymore... I just do it in order of HP... lol

The SS was more of a drag racing package. Z28 was a road racing package.

And RS, was an heavily optioned luxury version?

I see, does the Formula, Trans Am, WS6, Firehawk hierarchy follow that? Formulas and Firehawks more as road racing packages while the TA/WS6 was a drag racing package?

Yes, pretty much. They were the top tier cruiser.

The T/A was the Road Race car. It was named after the SCCA Trans Am racing series. The Formula was the drag car.

It was named after the series and debuted in 69, but couldn't compete until 1970 when the 305 CI limit was lifted.

Oh yeah? Do you have any spare interior parts for one of these?

Every now and then it is nice to give the dead horse one more kick...

I doubt it will happen in 2015. The Camaro is going to a different platform in 2016 with a major update. I bet they hold off on the LT engines until that time comes. If they put it into the 2015's, that model year will be a bastard child wearing the looks of the 5th gen with the engine of the 6th gen.

I agree with Joelster. I wouldn't expect to see the Gen5 until the 6th gen. If GM put the Gen5 engine into the Camaro in 2015, they'd have to spend a bunch of money re-certifying the EPA estimates. If the 5th gen was going to be around longer than 2016 then I could see it, but not with only 1 or 2 more model years left.

I don't believe anyone has seen an actual concept car yet, but the platform is already known. The current car is huge. The 6th gen will be smaller and lighter.

Wonder if they will still keep up the retro thing... or go a fresh direction.

That is the pic of "bumblebee" in the new Transformers movie. I'd say it's close to what we can expect for the 6th gen, but not 100% accurate. Some things I am certain on, is that the new platform will be a minimum of 350lbs lighter, and if they stuff LT1 engines in them, the cars will be rockets no doubt. Curb weight of roughly 3450-3500lbs and 450-460hp from a 6.2. I bet you'll even see a possibility of the new 5.3 engine offered. It puts out 355hp in the 2014 Silverado's, so figure around 375-385 in a Camaro. It would get well over 30mpg highway too, and run low 12's.

That pic is simply a redesigned 2014 Camaro on the Zeta platform. It's really no indication as to what the 6th gen will look like... it's just a "wilder" flavor of the 2014 redesign with a wider body.

They're apparently doing another repeat of "old school" Bumblebee and "new school" Bumblebee.

Well no matter what, I like the direction gm is going. Prices seem to be staying the same (iirc an 02 trans am was ~32k new) and power is rising. That's a win-win

I wouldnt be surprised to see the gen V small block come into the 5th gen Camaro. With the recent face/rear lift, I dont think you will see a redesign for atleast 4-5 years (2018-2019). This is coming with automotive engineering background at two very large auto companies. With advancements in technology, different platforms can be outfitted much more efficiently than they were just in the 90's. With Corvette sales staying consistent throughout the years, and the Camaros selling like hotcakes... You better believe GM wont let the Camaro hang in the rearview of a mustang for too much longer. Just my .02, take it or leave it.

Sorry -- there's no question of when GM is moving the Camaro to the 6th generation (Alpha) platform. GM has already announced that the Camaro production is moving to Lansing. As a direct response to the announcement about the Camaro moving to Lansing, the CAW (Canadian Auto Workers) stated they're going to need a replacement vehicle at Oshawa by late 2015-2016 to replace the Camaro. So that means that we'll see the Camaro being produced in Lansing in late 2015, early 2016. The Lansing plant in question is producing vehicles on the Alpha platform. Hence, they are not going to move the 5th Generation Camaro (Zeta vehicle) to Lansing (an Alpha platform plant). That can ONLY mean that the 6th generation Camaro is going to start production in late 2015, making it a 2016 model year.

Do keep in mind that this is all hear-say and estimates until GM officially comes out themselves and reveals the car. Everyone speculated that the C7 corvette was going to look like the one featured in the second Transformers. Also, the first Transformers featured a Camaro that wasnt even built by GM. Steve Saleen built that car, and Im sure the same goes for this new one that everyone is saying is the 6th Gen. True designs this far in advance are heavily gaurded secrets (I know, I worked on a concept design for a year and a half before we told the New York Press what the vehicle would look like). Im not saying you're wrong, I am just saying dont believe it fully unless its coming straight from the source.
