View Full Version : Easy flat spots on tires?

Anyone else's tires get flat spots easily in the cold? My truck and our work truck never do, but my cars tires will slightly flatten out somewhat in this cold. Even just parked for a few hours. You couldn't tell by looking but for about a half mile down the road there is a rhythmic bump in the tires until the road reshapes them lol. I was curious if maybe my tires are getting too old. The tread is great on them but they are years old, I just had several years when I rarely drove it.

Radials really should not get that over just a short amount of sitting.
How old is "old?"

Well the tires on my vette are from 1996... And they def flat spot based on how dry rotted they are...and the car sits for weeks at a time.
If they visibly are not showing issues.... Dont sweat it. Bur change out dry rotted tires.

I'm not familiar with the compound on those, but my mickey's have a soft compound and the tread will flatten a little till they warm up.

The tires look fine, great tread and none of them are noticeably flat, just a slight bump like I said for about a half mile. I know the Nexen brand isn't exactly HIGH quality compared to some, but they have been great tires so far for me. I just wasn't sure if the flattening meant they were no good anymore. I actually hit some black ice last night on a tight turn and they recovered very well.

I like Nexen tires. I've had good luck and wear out of them. I think it just might be the tread flatening out a little, then coming back with a little drive time.

I recently put different tires on my Corvette, there sat for a while on my 95 camaro while I build the motor, etc. Now they have vibration on the higway, but I think a few burn outs and driving should fix it.

I should be able to get some lol.
Pretty sure I've got some old ones of when we knew the motor was toast in the 95Z so we did a solo dirt track racing in the yard.

Summer type tires have compounds designed for warmer temps, so if its decently cold then the tires may take a "set" after a drive and they have became cold again. Nitto drag radials come with a disclaimer stating not to drive on them if the temp is 15 or below, I think.

I may check the pressure and add some air if needed, then do a rotation since they haven't been rotated yet. I'm sure they are in the 5-7k range right now. It sure doesn't take too long either. I just drove to my moms and it sat for maybe 2 hours and when I came back out they were bumpy again. I'm sure it's just the weather and I never noticed it before since this is the first winter I have really been driving it consistently.
