If you've never heard of the Woodward Dream Cruise, only one word can describe it... EPIC. This is the largest one day auto event in the entire world - over 1.5 million people and over 40,000 cars participate. Woodward Avenue is Detroit's main cruising strip - in the 50s and 60s, auto engineers would actually test drive their new vehicles out on Woodward and when cruising hit its all time high, that was the place to go and be seen. While many of us cruise Woodward every Friday and Saturday once the weather warms up, August 1st is the mark of the Dream Cruise month and cruising really starts to amp up. The Cruise officially is the 3rd Saturday of August, but truth be told the entire week is a ton of fun for cruising.

My group, Michigan FBody, always hangs out on Woodward on Fridays and Saturdays and come August we try to be out there as much as possible. The week of the Dream Cruise is a lot of fun - hanging out on Woodward every night seeing a ton of classic cars cruising up and down the strip. Wednesday and Thursday are the best days to be out there if you want to cruise - Friday and Saturday are usually total traffic jams with cruisers.

I wanted to see if we could stir up some interest to get some of the LTxTech folks from the surrounding area out to the Dream Cruise. There's always a ton of FBodies out there so it'd be awesome to see some LTxTech people too. :D I know NuckinFutz, Jamie, is planning on coming this year in addition to those of us that are already local to the area. Let's get some more LTxTech folks out and have a good time. :D

The closer to Woodward Avenue in proximity, the quicker it will run out. This is an event that draws people from all over the world, not just the country.

what section is the cruising. My dad and most of my family are from Detroit. I still have some aunts that live out that way. I am in Chicago and could make the cruise and do some visiting as well.

The cruise goes from 8 Mile to Pontiac - well over 10 miles. The heavy traffic is usually from ~9 mile to ~15 mile. It opens up a bit from 15 Mile until you get to Pontiac.

The day of the cruise I hang out in a free, first come first serve parking lot up at 19 mile rd -- it's further north than most of the cruisers but you still get a lot of traffic going by on their way to do the Pontiac loop and head back south. If you hang out in the heart of the cruise it's easy to get sick from the exhaust fumes since the cars are basically idling by.
