I've been searching everywhere for some well built shorty headers that would.be a good
foundation to start making my hot side for the camaro. Its been hard trying to find some that
have a good chance at fitting. I already have some bbk shortys (copy jon's kits) that I was going to go off of but I wanted to go a different route. I checked the measurements and found that these look like there going to fit. I just want to get some other opinion's on them if yall think there going to fit.

The headers are Sandersons CC11's

I saw those when I was making my headers. Only thing I didn't like we're 1.5" primaries. Iirc SB swap blazer/s10 shorties looked like they'd fit. Never got good hard info on em tho.

Yea I was looking to see if they had the same but with 1 5/8 or 1 7/8 , no luck. But I know it will flow way better than a log type hotside.

That is true. I used BBK headers on my last turbo build. Worked well. Idk if I have any pics of it though.

I dont think the 1 1/2 primarys are gonna hurt me. I see on other hot sides that have bigger primarys and they choke down all the way to 2 1/4 to keep velocity up. I think I"ll just keep it 2 1/2 all the way to the flange.

What size primarys did you use and you got a pic? Welding is just about the only thing I cant do good enough and a plus I have "old guy" welders at work that can do it right.

I'll be watching this thread closely, this is exactly how I want to do my turbo build someday. Only thing I thought of though was to run the headers back like theyre supposed to be and run a crossover pipe back to the front so that A/C and power steering aren't affected. Just a pipe dream i've had for a couple years lol.

I used 1 3/4". Only because my exhaust ports are pretty decent size and anything smaller would shroud the port badly. Didn't want my header flange to be the restriction. I got pics somewhere. I'll dig em up.

I was looking at the bracket and instead of buying the ac delete bracket I'm gonna move the belt tensioner up and to the left and cut off the excess bracket to make room for the downpipe to go through and under the motor mount. I already ordered the ribbed idler pulley to swap out the smooth one.

Now I just need to make a small bracket from the tab on the right of the tensioner to the main bracket bolt hole right next to it in the pic. I'm going to cut it off from the orange line down.

These headers will not fit on the driverside, they will interfere with the steering shaft. If you want the headers running to the back like you want you pretty much have to get camaro specific headers like bbk's or something.

When I got the ribbed pulley I was hoping it would fit right up but that didn't happen, it ran into the bolt that goes under the stock smooth pulley
I had to make a bracket out of 3/16 flat plate and a spacer to bring out the pulley and line it back up. Now I can put a 3 1/2 downpipe if I want.
I'm still waiting on the pipes they should be here on Monday.
The turbo still hasn't even shipped is that normal that you have to wait so long. I called the guy and he said precision has to build it first

Got enough room in there for the water pump?

Gonna have to flip the fans over to pushers def, but looks like you will get away with a gravity drain for the turbo drain.

Where is the downpipe gonna route?

Yea the waterpump is close but I measured for waterpump and radiator clearance. I'm gonna get a Griffin radiator and stand it up to clear everything.

For the downpipe I moved the belt tensioner up and to the passenger side to fit the downpipe under the swaybar and under the pass motormount.

Ok now I have the pipe all the way to the turbo flange. The last piece tfrom the Y to the flange gave me hell but I'm gonna keep it the way it is. I tried 3 different ways.
First I cut a slit in a 3 1/2" pipe and tried to tack it all the around the flange but the welds kept breaking when I put to much pressure. I suck at welding with my baby welder and 1/2" plate.
Then I tried to bell out one side off a 3" pipe to fit over the Y but couldn't get it right with what tools I have.
Third is what you see ovaled 3" pipe butted to the Y and the flange.

04-02-2013, 12:07 PM
I was gonna put one on it but, where I ordered the pipe they didn't have one in 2 1/2 so I said to myself "I'll get it later".
I have a bracket off the motor that supports the turbo.

And guys thanks for the input. It's the first time I'm doing this and learning as I go and appreciate the help.

Do you know a place where to get the 2 1/2 flex joint?

Progress has been kinda slow but I have all the piping from the headers to the turbo welded up. As for the downpipe I have it tacked up and got through the hard part. I had to shorten the radius twice to get under the swaybar and fit under the motormount. I still need to order 3" vband to finish the downpipe and a 2 1/2" flex joint on the crossover pipe.

You should just delete the oil cooler port on the water pump (the one you had to turn). IIRC a 1/2 NTP tap and plug will work on it. The Griffin radiator you're getting isn't going to have the additional lower port to connect it anyway.

Thanks man, its fun figuring the angles and seeing the work paying off and I only spent $550 on the material and $100 on the welder and my time of course.

I really want to put the O2s where I don't have to take them off the pipe.

I did some mockup today.
The only thing that hit is the rubber isolater on the steering shaft to the lowest primary. It's a good thing it's not that much so I can put my shaft off of the LS donor car, that should clear it.http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/07/22/qyjynuba.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/07/22/duhepume.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/07/22/na9upaqe.jpg

The balancer isn't pressed in so I have a 1/4" more space between the turbo and balancer http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/07/22/y5e2y6a8.jpg

Question. Any chance of the down pipe going over the sway bar? That's a LOT of turning pretty close to the turbo. Just thinking in terms of exhaust gasses slowing down potentially limiting your turbine speed and as such, boost output.

Not a chance. I even raised the belt and still can't make it.I would have to remove the swaybar to do it the way I want it. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/10/05/5y6y9anu.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/10/05/a7uhaqej.jpg

If the pipe chokes up the exhaust to much I'll just have to remove the swaybar and reposition the idler pulley so I can route the pipe through the inside of the belt.
There's the path I'm talking about.

I've been doing some wiring to the body harness. I rerouted all the power wires and the 100 connecter thats on the pass side shocktower, through the inside to the pass side under the dash. That's where I'm going to put the junction box and another fuse box to run both fuelpumps, meth, ecu and will be adding ignition relay. Here's a pic of the body harness.http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/10/06/tume5ebe.jpg

Here's the plan I going to do. This is the firewall with the dash removed.http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/10/06/qe6u4usu.jpg
The from left to right is the fusebox, injectordriver and ecu. The batterycable is conning from the rear to starter and then back in to the junctionbox.

Thats what I did, my PCM is sitting on the trans tunnel with the harness coming through the firewall behind the engine.

Headlight/horn harness runs down the side but trimmed its rather Un-noticabale.

Yea, I want to see only motor and turbo when I open the hood.

Now if I could get a couple of days off to be able to do something. C'MON RAIN

I did plenty of weight reduction also. I removed all the interior. carpet and insulation 48#
Front bumper 23#
Rear bumper 19#
Wiring (what I saved) 13#
Also removed but not weighed
rear seatbelts
rear seats
abs + wiring
airbags+ wiring
all hvac + wiring
Radio, speakers + wiring
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/10/11/yqudamut.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/10/11/e3amaneh.jpg
I'm going to leave the interior out for the 10pt cage and then I'm going put down some ozite for carpet. For the seats I'm going with the kirkeys.

I have my heads and intake out getting ported right now at Headbytes, should be done in a week or two.

Nope, Autozone has a horrible selection of wire loom. If you have a Fry's near you, go there. They actually have 1/4" stuff which is hard to find, I bought a bunch when I redid my engine harness.

Guys, just watch out for the poly wire loom you get in the big box stores. It's thin, soft, and melts very very easily. For not much more money, TechFlex F6 split braid loom is available on ebay for very reasonable costs, and there are suppliers on line which sell the factory style nylon loom that's very heat resistant. Just hate to see you go to the trouble of all the wiring only to have it melt and become a bigger problem within a couple of days of actual use.

Yea. I bought the loom from there that I used on my lights side of the body harness. It greyish and cheap quality. I didn't want to buy it for the engine harness.
Thanks Fastbird for pointing me in the right direction. I'll certainly be looking into the TechFlex F6 your talking about.

I'm doing a lot of rewiring and I want to make sure everything is working and I won't even be able to turn on the car with the stock engine I still have in it with the tune I need. Plus I don't want to pay $200 bucks just to tune out only the vats

Ok I cleaned up all the harness and took Fastbirds advice and ordered some Techflex F6 braided wire loom and some harnesstape and redid all the harness. It came out looking way better than the stock stuff. Now I need to put it in and see what to do with the interior side of the wiring harness.http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/10/25/pypajeny.jpg
