View Full Version : WWYD -- Ebay Issue With Seller/Item I Bought

So I picked up a football card from ebay a few days back. just another Emmitt Smith BGS graded 9.5 card, so it's sealed in the case, serial numbered, etc. I paid a pretty penny for this one too.

It comes in, and I'm looking at it. And I notice that the upper "corner" (the card is cut in a triangle shape) was actually split and folded over when it was put in the case. Certainly NOT a BGS 9.5 card at this point no matter what the grading in the case says.

So I email the guy tonight, and here's his reply:

Just send card back with delivery confirmation and I will give you a refund plus your shipping. I am not willing to give discount because I have had many offers on this card including shows where they have seen card.

Thanks, Jim

Now mind you, I offered him HALF of his set price auction as a best offer and it was accepted. And the attitude above just screams to me that he knew it was messed up in the first place.

I'm wondering how I should proceed. I wanted to ask for a partial refund, but apparently that's not in the cards. I don't want to let it go because this is the ONLY one of these cards I've ever seen come out with a 9.5 grade and I've been watching for a long time. So I'm in a conundrum. Do I not reply, not leave feedback, call it good, or do I press the issue?

Well, How much does it mean to you? Sounds like it's your Unicorn card. Do you plan on reselling it?

Link the closed auction, IYDM,

I thought you aren't allowed to withdraw the money as a seller until the buyer leaves feedback

Can u take it somewhere and get it professionally appraised. Then u know for sure what an expert thinks.

This would be my route, but I guess I either slept later or Popo stayed up later...

Then a local seen in person appraiser can provide you another letter from their business with an official grade listed.

No feedback left yet. No need for appraisal because I'd have to send in to Beckett, and pay to have it regraded. Debating over keeping and dealing with it, or just sending it back for a refund.

I could tell you it's NOT worth it. The card in the case doesn't correspond with the grade on the case at this point. That's it, point blank. It WAS up to the point it was put in and damaged. there's still some merit to it, but it's not "proper" if you know what I mean.

Then is the grade a lie?
