alright being that the car is down for the winter getting the motor and trans rebuilt im probably going to have about 360-380 hp and am going to stick with the ten bolt until next season. My question is which carrier is more likely to hold me until than. I am not a fan of clutches in lsd but if thats my only option. I thought detroit had a carrier with gears instead of cluthces?

The carrier is not the weak link in the 10 bolt. But the Detroit carrier you are thinking of is a Detroit locker, which uses gears instead of the clutch packs in a posi.
How do you drive the car? I am pushing around 400 rwhp just fine through the stock 10 bolt, but I only drive mine on the street. You might try looking into an Eaton HD posi if you really want to change yours out.

The 10 bolt should be fine. If its an auto the launches wont be as hard on it as a stick car. I have friends running low 11s with mid 1.5 60' on completly stock(other than the gears) 10 bolts. Its all on how hard you beat on it. For every guy who breaks one theres a guy doing just fine with one.
Buddy of mine had a 10.70 6speed car on his stock 3.42 10 bolt! (at 245k miles all original,ha)
Some just hold the torture better than others.

Depends on how hard you are on them and how much traction you have.
Assuming you don't want to be out for the season or spring for a new rear, go easy on it and you'll be fine.

The 3.42s are probably saving it! The lower the gear the smaller that poor pinion gets! Most of the 10 bolt failures I have dealt with ahve been manual cars with 4.10s. I WANT to put some 4.10s in Stephs car, but better judgement is winning and I'm going to hold off until we decide on what upgraded rear will find its way under the car.
