To me boots are a tool if you work on your feet all day long. Recently the current boots that I'm using which are Timberland pro series started going bad very quickly. I bought the boots back in Aug. '12. Three months after that the insoles wore out. I contacted Timberland but they said they couldn't do anything for me. So I'm currently in the market for new boots. I'm looking in the 100-150 range. Was wondering what every body else likes and yes I'm staying away from Timberland.

I wear red wing gortex 8" tops. Most comfortable boot I've ever worn. However they cost me $325 here for them :(

I got my latest pair of boots from a military surplus store, steel toe and everything. Think they cost me about a hundred bucks.
In all reality, combat boots are the only boots I've ever had that lasted me longer than 6 months. I am extremely hard on my clothing, I've been known to put holes in a brand new pair of dickies after a month or two.

I love the side zipper. i put them on... Zip up...tie them..double knot...then unzip to take them off. i also keep a hand cuff key inside the zipper flap on one and a knife inside the other. Never tie them more than once in a life time...

I work in a body shop and I'm on concrete all day long. I used to have sore feet at the end of the day till I tried Redback boots. I got my first pair off the matco tool truck. They lasted me a long time I'd say almost 2 years but I mostly wore the boots. (Still have them) the soles are made of a softer shock absorbing rubber type material. They were awesome boots. Time came to get a new pair and I tried a pair if snap on boot and I hated them. So I ordered another set of http://www.redbackboots.com/ and I'm back to enjoying life again. I have the slip on version and they are nice and snug with no chance of them slipping off. Just a great boot and I will never buy another brand again.

I like the wolverine durashocks. I wore a local bootmaker's pairs for a long time. They were called Charlie's, each pair would last about 2 years. Around 2750 molten iron and cutting firewood that's a long time.

Im assuming an arguement could be made either way... The same way talking about a gun or duty belt would be tools for me.

that's all ive ever worn beside a pait of wolverines that lasted me 6 months. I like the carlolina loggers they have a deep long lasting sole. and the gortex and thinsulate is a plus if you don't mine spending 200 bucks but its worth it they last.

I ran through a pair of bates in 3 months, I was super gluing a different part back together every week. Super comfy and light weight though. Maybe I needed a different model, I'm a plumber. I'm wearing a pair of wolverines now that are really comfy, try we're half price, I'm a sucker for a sale.

I must have gotten Timberlands (pro series) when they were making them better or something because mine lasted for over 3 years. And I certainly wasn't easy on them. Working outside on my feet for 8 hours a day, pheasant and grouse hunting, hiking, winter, you name it, I can't imagine how many miles were on 'em. They finally took a turn for the worse last fall. Got a pair of Redwing boots now for around $220, much more comfortable and quality is excellent. Only had them for about 5 months, but they are still in great shape. We will see how they hold up. Redwing also said they will waterproof and polish them whenever I want for free. Great customer service.

I wear these at work during the summer because I can not wear boots with shorts :) http://www.carolinashoe.com/Product?stockNo=CA9508 They are not too bad, but they are pretty much shot and I have had them for about 9 months. I spend 8-10 hours a day on concrete and am on my feet 95% of the time.
During the winter months I have a pair of these http://www.dmusastore.com/p-940-8833-oxford.aspx they are heavy and don't breath very well but I find myself wearing them more than the shoes, but they make my feet sore after a couple weeks of wearing them everyday. I should also add that my feet are wide and I have trouble finding steel toes that don't murder my toes.
I'm in the market for new shoes right now, so I may give the Bates a try if they have a safety shoe that I could wear shorts with
