So I stopped buying GMHTP years ago because I was tired of the LSX circle jerk. There were few to no "magazine cars", legit testing of products, and just a bunch of credit card builds with flashy numbers. And, rare coverage on anything LT1. Again, just my opinion.

So a year or so back I bought Super Chevy and a few other older magazines to check out SBC, BBC, and old muscle car builds. Turns out I got the same crap in a different wrapper. Seemed to me like most of the builds and talk was about LSX stuff. How to swap everything out for LSX. How to retrofit the trans, run wiring, motor mounts, etc all for LSX.

I suppose I look bitter, but really I miss the days of picking up a Super Chevy and seeing a BBC head/intake shootout or talk about swapping xxx nets xxx in the 1/4 or on the dyno. I understand GMHTP has to stay on the new edge of the ever evolving world of GM performance, but even Super Chevy and others have jumped ship. Perhaps I had a bad run of months were these things weren't done, but if I want to watch a LScircle jerk I'll head over the Internet Brand's corporate LS1technosponsorism land.

True my first copy had the LTX Shootout, which got my hopes up. Next issue: Bolt on C6Z06 (9's), C6 Procharger install, LS9 Cam in 6.2L, LSX Shootout, GTO drift car, and a barely 10's supercharged and heads and cam LS3 5th Gen. I got excited when I saw the 8 second "True Street Terror" 3rd gen, but then realized it's yet another LSX block build.

The Direct injection article is neat because it's new. I did like the LS9 cam because they dyno checked results, and the bolt on Z06 was a cool feat. Idono, perhaps I missed other neat articles but I see a same trend as the last time I read the magazine.

Maybe I'm just impossible to please. The diesel mags annoy me most of the time as well. I get more satisfaction reading David Vizards facebok and Larry Meaux old posts on Speedtalk.

I agree with the OP. It's LSx everything. If you really want to check out a cool car magazine, see if your newsstand sells RPM MAG. Here's a sample cover:

90% of the cars they feature are cars you'll see in the fastest street car competition. Everything is in color, and the vendor/advertiser row in the magazine is incredible. No pro-touring, no wimpy powerplants, no swapped LSx stocker engines. Just tons of features of 6 and 7 second street cars and uber-level drag cars that can win car shows. You'll see a lot of cars from members of yellowbullet in there.

I have my GMHTP subscription through 2016 and over the last few years I find myself reading less and less of it. I mostly find myself reading the readers rides section and whats new from GM, and if by chance they have a TPI or LT1 write up to. Not sure what I will do when my subscription is up....

I would like to rant about the diesel rags for a seconed to. First off, as far as Im concerned diesels are a huge waste of money unless you pull a trailer for a living. Those writers think diesels are the seconed coming of christ! Yes, you can pull your house down, run as fast as your pocket book will allow and get 18mpg with it. What they dont tell you is the extra 10-15k you will pay for the diesel engine over the gas engine (when buying new of course), the extra fuel costs, the higher preventitive maint costs, and so on.
I remember a few years ago four wheeler or some mag did a non-biased comparision of gas vs diesel and to recoup the cost of owning a diesel you would need to own the truck for something like 18 years. Ill try and see if I can find the article.

The other thing that pisses me off about the diesel mags is, its like Im looking at a mustang mag. I have to flip through ten pages of ads just to get to the next freaking article!

I hate diesel mags too. You know this dodge has 7000 turbos and a 5 ft lift and this and that. Its ugly and you cant drive it everyday.

Well the lsx swaps r because they mod better right? Like a video game you want the easy levels and cheats so its easier to beat the game. Now while I comend gm for putting out great power from its lsx platforms and I rather enjoy being the underdog. If I do beat an ls type car then it makes my victory all the more sweeter.
