My dad bought the thing brand new in 1995... had it ever since. It's never had any issues but since it sat for quite some time I had to re go threw it and do some general stuff like glo plugs, Fuel filter, idm box, batteries Trans and diff fluid .. Just got new tires to.

The thing is immaculate on the inside.

Next step is ordering my 4x4 kit .

We mainly use it as a back up vehicle and take it on fishing and hunting trips.

I was going to finish the coil thing today, but decided to just toss on the spindles... so I shot back over to the junk yard to pick 'em up. Here's what he gave me.

No problem... I've never done this before, so it's a learnin' opportunity. EMBRACED!


Took 'em apart; the hard way... and got down to what I needed and decided to go the extra mile and took the right angle sanding wheel to 'em, primed and painted:

Then... things took a turn.


The geometry didn't work... put the rotor on and it didn't line up. And it didn't line up precisely the dimension of the Baer adapter bracket at 180 degrees. Shit...


So fuck it, a quick trip to the Home D for some cutting wheels for the grinder (two earlier trips had not managed to get them, but I have a nice new set of ratchet wrenches that were on sale...). Came back and 'fabbed' up the spindle to accommodate the bracket. PERFECT! :

Found these... and $150 beats a new set of wheels. Anyone using these up front?

I hate the idea of changing my wheels, 'cause I love my Centerline rims. But clearly something has to be done. Otherwise it have to pop for another spindle and use the LS pinchers... the one's that came with the spindles I got today looked to be in excellent shape and they're 2001 so... beats the stockers from the '96.

As it sits now it's just a cnc with a tool holder lol. It can run a plasma, laser, light duty spindle (mill), even a wood router. I have a spindle on the way. I call it light duty because it won't do steel, or at least I don't see it being capable of if without doing several several light cuts. I'm just going to use it for engraving throttle body plates, maybe make some coil pack holders, alternator relocation brackets, egr block off plates, plus whatever odds and ends I'm making at any given point. Been wanting one for a long time. Should have it running tomorrow. Going to practice on plywood first

Yeah was my grandmas old truck that the junk man was going to give her nothing for after the rear diff went out. I grabbed it at night, only saw it at night thinking it was still halfway decent then when I finally got a chance to wrench on it during the day saw all the rust how much the interior needed to be cleaned. Was going to trade it off for an lt1 car but someone would have been getting a raw deal on that. So it sits. Put it back together and try to get 1500 bucks out of it or something

Same color and motor as my 99. The intake gaskets are notorious for leaking. I did mind about 4 years ago and put some those felpros with the steel liner and it don't do it anymore. .. they have the stupidest fitting that goes into the front passenger bank that screw into the intake that is made out of a shit POT metal , they crack easy if you try to take them out, but they have an issue because the hose has literally just a tiny plastic cup that holds it into the intake. I'd suggest getting one and just keeping it with you cause when they crack and the hose pushes out it looks like u got a meth lab coming out of the hood. Those l31's are great little sbc that go forever!

Went to the tail of the dragon and wilksboro abandoned speedway yesterday.

Anyone who hasn't been to the dragon, its a blast, like a deadly racetrack in the miuntains ha.

I would say its one of my favorite places now and I will definetly return. If you want to play, all you have to do is wait at either end for someone that looks like a challenge. Ha
We drove about 10 hours round trip plus a couple hours or so there, and I'm sure we will do it again.

The view from the top is amazing and pictures don't do it justice, this one is really only half of the view.
They also have groups that sit on the side and take high res pictures, then sell them online at certain sites associated with tail of the dragon.


Anyway, it was fun, well worth the trip for people close.

Funny Story... i met up with a member of the forum buying a car part from me. We met in the parking lot behind the hotel. A car comes thru and the driver asks about parking spots... now, the site member that i was talking to and I are.... well lets just say, TAN, ALL YEAR ROUND. We are standint by his BMW M3 which is all black and "attention getting." The guy asking about spots then asks... "what are u guys doin," odd enough question that i figd id mess with him. Told him... "Im just here selling him drugs," and we laughed. The driver of the car says... "what do u got?" I Laugh again and say "nothing man... go look for a spot before they are all full..." he asks again, "seriously, u brought it up... what do u got?" I laughed again... i told him nothing amd he drives away. I bs with the guy i sold the car part 2 and start walking back around the hotel. Here comes the other guy with his girl and kid... he stops me and asks... "dude what do u have?" This time I look at him and I say... "nothing man, Im a cop..." He turned pale white and wished me a good night as he walked away very quickly...
