Back in the late 90's in the VERY early Norcal-LS1 days we did what was called the "Norelco mod." You'd be beating someone and while ahead flip on the interior lights and start shaving with an electric razor (not really, but you het the idea) to really goad the loser. There was some seriously funny shit back then.

Thanks. Couldn't remember who I spoke to that had one. He can make me one for the 80e for $585. Comes with a stout 2 year warranty so sounds hard to beat. Everything else I've looked at is $750 and up. I do understand that you get what you pay for (in most cases) but this isn't a max effort build so I'm not overly concerned about leaving a little mph, et, or efficiency on the table. This car has seen 50 miles the last year. And that includes the 15 mile cruise at the shootout

I found a guy locally who blew up his 383 and wife flipped out so he is selling off. Got his lt's, o2's, extensions, and y-pipe for $100. While standing there, told him about my converter issues and he hands me a brand new, never installed 2800 stall from mad dog and says 100 bucks. Knowing their rep, I hesitated but I figured, "well at minimum it's free given the deal I got on the headers." Might install it, might put it on ebay. Haven't decided yet.

i was told by more than one person with rear mount kits that long tubes lose exhaust velocity and heat, thus making less power than would be made on the same setup and shorties/cast manifolds/rearmount. the one guy on here has a rearmount firehawk and he said it as well. i get bored alot though, and enjoy being different. i wouldnt mind trying a rearmount with a 240+k mile hotcammed longblock. whats it gonna do? blow up? HAHAHAHAH

Regarding long tubes vs manifolds, velocity is not an issue. Air goes in air goes out. It gets ran together at the y and goes to the turbo. Only thing that affects velocity is the diameter of the piping TO the turbo. Heat loss from long tubes vs manifolds COULD be an issue, however sts sizes their turbos differently to account for the difference in density from the hotter exhaust that a front mount encounters vs the cooler air that a rear mount encounters. The debate that typically occurs is " I have an sts kit, will long tubes help it pick up more HP?" That answer is no. There is no benefit to running long tubes vs manifolds on a rear mount. You're saying, I have long tubes, so it won't be worth it to run an sts kit. The simple solution would be (if you are convinced that long tubes are going to hinder performance in some way) is to sell them and request the buyers manifolds.

I've actually got everything I need but aluminum heads and an lt1 crank. I have a regular 1 piece 350 crank but I'm not sure if they are the same strength/balance as the lt1. I just wanna keep it a TRUE stock bottom end to see what breaks first.

I have NEVER come across a happy race car oriented setup owner.

To be clear, I am not saying a rear mount won't work cause there are numerous very fast race cars running them, but for the STS kit you will end up replacing most of it with stuff to make it more efficient and make any at all boost.

The guys that have bought real sts kits sized to their car are very happy with them and compared to the same vehicle with same mods at the same power levels, the difference in lag in non existent. Now when you get a kit then start changing things, all bets are off. So in that sense, its sort of a one and done mod IMO whereas a front mount allows some more wiggle room

I'm not sure I seen any scientific experiments with controlled variables in my searching but just reading guys (mostly c5/c6 vette guys) talk about owning cars with both systems on different cars at one point or another or riding in other friends cars (again, similar engine size, mods, gears) they were pleased and noted no difference is spool time. When you do searching and find the guy that put a holset 35 in the place of his muffler on an ls1 Camaro with 3" exhaust and bitches about not spooling up until 5k..... yea, rear mounts are going to get a bad rep.

Hardest part is going to be getting someone to weld the hotside for less than an arm, leg, and case of beer. Im not that good at welding, and i doubt ill have my mig fixed by then.

Dangerous95lt1 just got a pro race last week I believe. 7.85@87 (I think) in the 1/8 on motor. I believe he is hoping to see what it does on a 150 shot next weekend. Previous PB was 7.11 @98 maybe? Stock bottom end and heads with a cc306 cam. He should be in the 6's with the new trans.

My friend just bought a dark green police interceptor crown Vic and about 100 miles into owning it the exhaust fell off right after the H-pipe. So had some fun installing a set if Thrush Glasspacks with side exits right before the rear wheels to get him by til he gets his new exhaust ordered up. I guess having a baby cuts into his car funds a bit lol.
I was just amazed at how quite the 4.6s are with Glasspacks and no tailpipes, figured it would have a little rumble....

i just purposely overheated my iphone 4s with a heat gun to see if i could more or less "hard reset" it since nothing was working to get the grayed out wifi back. i could not use wifi, couldnt toggle it on or off. restored, updated, everything, nothing worked. overheated phone until it said temperature too high, powered off, put it in the fridge for 10 mins to cool, turned it back on and its there working....

i dont have any of the actual set up of it, but the S/C is under the seat in the cab on the boom, and is belt driven off a Hydrolic motor, Airblast is 4" alum pipe straight out to a special designed nozzle for max velocity not volume. somewhere close to 700mph at the nozzle.

the 2 we have in the shop right know ran low on oil overheated and now the oil looks like metal flake paint.

it really is, there is a lot of cool stuff i get the chance to work on. every thing from normal cars and trucks to special purpose built vehicles, fire trucks, and vehicles that are classified as "weapon systems" where we need a security clearance to work on them.

We don't mess with manuals. We do most domestic automatics with the exception of newer Chrysler 5 speeds and Chrysler front wheel drives. We also do Hondas, Nissans, Volvos, and Subarus.
