Anybody see this past weekend’s Powerblock episode of Horsepower “Building a competitive dirt track engine”?? The track mentioned was 3 miles down the road from my house. I can hear the races sitting on the back deck. Music to my ears…lol. Our little claim to fame. People have been complaining the past few years about the noise, but the track has been there since there was NOTHING out here.

i saw it also... i loved how the host was saying "it was the longest dyno session i ever had the PLEASURE of being a part of."

how politically correct.

There is a dirt track and a dragstrip close to my moms. We can hear the dragstrip. The dirt track is a little further away. I always wanted to build a dirt track car.

They also have an 1/8 mile strip there. I can hear t&t nights sometimes during the week. Mostly the sat night dirt races though. There has been talk of closing it down, but when the topic comes up at council meetings. Supporters always fill the chambers & outside trying to keep it open. Hasn't closed yet.

Project96,

Be careful with the noise complaints! Make sure the track supporters are vocal at every meeting to counter the complaints. We never thought KCIR would actually close after the several years of attacks about the noise. There's a long back story and dirty political backdoor secrets but in a nutshell:

The track was built in 1967 long before any of the complaining residents were there. The houses get built and people bitched enough, the city started listening. Next thing you know city inspections caused a $$ burden on the track and the city ended up buying it since the owner feared condemnation by the city.

Now the track is nothing more than a broken up piece of concrete in land deemed unuseable by the EPA, so there will never be a "park" s the city claimed.

I used to help a friend with his Mod-lite's at Delmar Speedway before he went to BB Mod. I know what you mean about people bitching about noise. I had an old neighbor who moved here from Connecticut; write letter's to Dover AFB to change their final approach because it was over his house. They quickly told him to kick rocks.

I want to slap the people that are complaining. What were they thinking when they bought their house. "You move in next to a race track & your going to complain when theres racing going on". I think he has to open by a certain date each yr or they close it. The owner used to be my boss at a previous job, not the race track. So I don't care for him too much, but I like the track. Not sure if your ever going to stop street racing, but it at least keeps some of theses kids off the street. Plus people come from all over to race here at the dirt track. Why would they close it when its a small business & it brings $$ & people here.

Because, alot of the people that live in your area, work somewhere else or are city people roughing it in the country.

I'm not in the country. That's like moving in next to the dump & complaining about the smell. Then trying to get them to close it because its sweet stench bothers you.

The reason for my post above, My Step-sister and her husband are a few of the transplants bitching about the noise. Sorry brother, you can't pick family.

Ridiculous. Too many tracks have lost that battle. The track in Huntsville used to be 1/4 now its only 1/8 and they have to stop running at a certain time at night. It was off in the woods and people started building houses close to it. I want to burn those people houses down. Luckily the ones local to me have people that go to the tracks and don't care about the noise.

There has been time limits set, but can't remember what they are. I actually like hearing it during the racing season.
