Hey guys, I want to get a feeler of how much attention this might get before I go spending a lot of time figuring out how to make this happen. I have created a custom Firebird/Trans Am theme for my Android phone and was wondering how many of you would be interested in being able to get it for your own phones if I get a theme built for the theme chooser and get it up on the Google Play Market. As it sits right now, I only have it built for manual install using RootExplorer on the phone, but if enough people are interested, I can definitely sit down and learn how to get an app built to do it automatically. I can also create a Camaro based theme as well to mimic what I already have done. If Larry and Meissen are down with it, I could also try putting together an LTXTech theme with their input and donate some of the proceeds from the downloads to the site.

I managed to find some old early early alpha stage pics of it, dunno what I did with the screenshots of the finished product damnit. I'll see if I can't find them and post them up later, but this will give you an idea:

14826 14827 14828
[Modded icons from top to bottom, left side: Wifi, Bluetooth, Airplane mode, Data on/off, GPS, Auto-Sync, Tethering]
[Modded icons from top to bottom, right side: Screen rotate, Vibrate, Swagger (for those running AOKP), Torch flashlight, Silent, 2G data on/off]

Boot Animation:
http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll248/Traumbrecher/FirebirdTransAmWS6.gif

The final product has all the blue changed over to red, so it's a full red-on-black theme. I've also since found a nice fuel-gauge style battery icon I plan to incorporate as well before I release it.
If anyone has a different color preference, shout out and I can see how many people want that color to see if it's worth the time to go and change everything and put out a separate theme to download.

My thinking on this is to load it up to the Play Store for $0.99, does that sound reasonable to everyone?

I certainly can! It'd take me a few days probably to get one put together and have a preview, but I figured I'd aim to please both parties of F-Body lovers on here lol. I could even put together a Corvette one as well, now that I think about it.

Oh, interesting. Your green battery threw me off lol. I have an SGS2 also and my wife has an SGS3 as well.

Don't forget to vote in the poll guys! I plan to use that to see which ones will get the most attention. It's also multiple choice, so you can pick more than one.

Computer/electronics stuff is something that is MEISSEN and FASTBIRD territory. Maybe PM them regarding the LTX stuff and they can dumb stuff down for me to have some say in.

Really all I'd need as far as input would be styling input, i.e. x icon for x symbol, y icon for y symbol, background, color scheme, etc. I also wouldn't put one together without permission from all 3 of you guys since I know you own this place and I don't wanna step on any toes lol.

Damn, this was way easier to do back on ICS builds.. Jelly Bean went and moved everything around and multiplied the amount of shit I have to edit to ridiculous levels. Grrr... Bear with me guys, I have a feeling it's gonna take me a few days to get even my own phone running my theme again LOL. Once I do, I'll post up some pics of the end result of my Trans Amdroid theme. From there, it should be a lot quicker to tweak it to Camaro/Corvette themes. Anyone know of a good XML editor? My computer seems to be lacking one lol.

CamaroZGuy
01-28-2013, 11:38 PM
if your making it on Jelly bean, will it still work on Ice cream sandwich? (god i hate android for there names...LOL)

Blackbird96WS6
01-28-2013, 11:42 PM
Yeah, I think it should. I'll be doing some testing with that by hopping around on a few different ROMs if I have to. As long as it's using the new holo dark scheme, it should apply fine. I'll have to do some reading on whether or not it will scale back to Gingerbread and Froyo phones (God, I can't imagine anyone still running Froyo at this point...)

Just wait for Key Lime Pie to drop later this year! LOL

dam, i though jelly bean just came out?

and is there a way to get updates after you root? i know with my old droid2 it would fail every time when trying to update.

If you're waiting on your carrier to update you, you'll have a new phone before they get around to pushing Jelly Bean out LOL. You gotta install an up to date ROM to get on the most current version available for your phone. I'm currently running AOKP nightlies, Android 4.1.2. There's a 4.2.1 AOKP release for my phone now, but I've been too lazy to back up my phone and shit and move over to it. I have so many damn apps installed, it takes like an hour to get back up and running even using Titanium Backup to restore all my shit lol. Something tells me though I should just bite the bullet and move up to 4.2.1 before I get too far into tweaking this theme because I have a feeling they're going to move shit around again *sigh*..

Oh right, I just remembered why I haven't gone up to 4.2.1 yet, there's still some unresolved bug with Netflix and 4.2.1 - it won't work for some reason. I like being able to watch Top Gear while I'm stuck in the IT cave at work imaging laptops

I could teach you lol but I'd open another thread for that. If you're bored and feel like learning how to on your own, see if your device is on the XDA Developers forums. If it's there, there's bound to be a how to guide for rooting and ROMing, so you skip the rooting bit and jump straight to picking a ROM.

How about I just send you my new phone and send it back finished. LOL

How about I just send you my new phone and send it back finished. LOL

Wouldn't be the first time I've done that LOL I set one up for my brother-in-law and shipped it to him in Peru, then did another one for his friend haha. Just make my life easy and stick to an SGSX phone lol. So much easier to work with than the other phones I've seen. Plus Galaxy phones are great in that you can unroot them at any time if you need to take it in for warranty service or something :D HTC is perma-rooted once you do it, so you're screwed.

On a side note, I just looked through all the files I have to sift through one by one to see if I need to change it or leave it as it is (and I saved myself the time of editing the .xml files by cheating and taking another guy's theme off the market as a baseline to work off of LOL. He already has all the color scheming done which will save me some time). I still have 5218 .png files to sort through x.x Then hope it all recompiles correctly and doesn't fuck up my phone :jest: Thank goodness for nandroid backups!

Would you please address Meissen and Fastbird with a pm or maybe even a link to this. We would also need to discuss TM and copyright stuff also. but i love the idea.

I like the idea - my only request would be to have some sort of text overlay over the toggles. Looking at the screen shots, I'd need a cheat sheet every time I wanted to turn something on or off because there's no way I'd memorize the order of those toggles :lolsign:

Haha I can work something into that. I really just had all the toggles set to icons there to showcase every single one available, I don't normally keep all of those showing on my phone, just the ones I need to use. For the LTXTech theme, I'd really like to throw up the devil opti icon for the Settings button at the top :)

I will eventually find a way to get it on the android market, right now it's sitting in a decompiled folder on my computer lol. I'll keep you guys updated on my progress with it as it gets closer to being ready to launch.

Doesn't messing with the boot animation mess with the flash settings?

That's always risky if it is, you can have a nice brick.

No? Lol I've made a couple bootanimations, it's just a .zip file that it reads on bootup and plays the animation while the OS loads up. Hell, you can even remove the bootanimation and it'll just boot up to a blank black screen till the OS finishes loading (tested it). I also made a bootanimation out of this LOL:

I used to mod the old Ipods (nanos & videos) and changed themes and boot logos. the boot used to be in flash and u messed it up, it would get bricked.

guess these are 2 different animals

Blackbird96WS6
01-29-2013, 11:56 AM
Yeah I don't know about Apple shit, I avoid them like the plague. Android is pretty easy to work with, though, and pretty hard to brick. The only time I've ever bricked a phone yet was when I accidentally unplugged a phone I was flashing with ODIN in the middle of the flash LOL. And even then, $11 at RadioShack and I built a homemade jig to unbrick it and reflash - came right back to life. I love how resilient these things are.

I literally have no idea what is being said in this thread.

Blackbird96WS6
01-29-2013, 12:05 PM
Lol bricking your phone means turning your phone into a brick, a paperweight. This generally happens whenever you fuck up the OS or bootloader on the phone and when you turn it on you get an error symbol and nothing happens, aka it's now a brick. At least for Samsung Galaxy phones, I know how to bring these back to life with what's called a "jig" that you can build from a micro USB cable and 3 resistors. :)
