Broken oil galleys? [Archive]

Let me start by saying I just found out I have an LT1 from an Impala SS with iron heads. I was pulling my valve covers tonight and looked at my front return valleys to find that they look broken or about 2x the size of stock. Can you guys take a look at these pictures and verify this for me and tell me how bad it really is? Could someone have done this thinking it would help return oil faster? I know its not needed, just wondering the thoughts.

I've got a pair on my workbench I can look at tomorrow for you if you want. Unless there was obvious cracking I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks!! They are cracked, but it looks intentional. Its almost identical on both sides.
