You'll have to find one from a part out or a place like hawk's 3rd gen, f body ranch or such. You're gonna spend some money tho, mint dash bring the cash. My friends and I part out a few F bodies, to fix our junk, I'll keep an eye for ya one.

Yeah, unfortunately this is an all-too-common problem with these cars. If you manage to find one in a junkyard, consider buying a lottery ticket on your way home while you're at it lol. And if you check into replacements on ebay or something, make sure you really really check it out thoroughly and contact the buyer before you pay for one because almost all of them are covers and not replacements. If you get really desperate for one, calling up GM *may* be an option (I don't know if it's still possible to get one from GM anymore, I haven't called to check myself), but I've heard they want almost $500 for it, so it's not the most cost effective way to get one. Best thing is to just patiently keep your eyes open for cars being parted out and such and ask ask ask. Never know when you might get lucky. ;)

hahaha yea Its not terrible but I mean if I could snag a replacement it would be cool. the car was my uncles and he lives in va, the summer heat down there cooked it lol. when I was down there in the summer I looked at a few places but they were gutted. another think I am looking for is the hinge for the center console ( not the whole thing, although might not be a bad idea.) just the liner I guess cause that's the part the hinge is with lol. but taking a guess were probably back to playing the numbers again lol.

When you say the hinge is broken, is it still connected, but wobbles side to side? Or is it completely broken off?

the metal rod that connects the 2 parts is gone and the part of the hinge that would rock on the metal is gone. id have to take a pic if I don't understand lol I can try next time I go start it its in storage for the winter. I don't know if u can buy the whole liner top and bottom and just swap them or not. I also searched for the lid for the console because that's were the hinge is snapped. if I could find the lid I could find a metal rod to replace the old one

Hmm, I'm not sure if you can get just the liner. I had to replace the lid to mine when I got it because the plastic on the liner of the lid had broken off on the left and right supports, but it was still hanging on by the center support where the metal rod goes through. I was able to find that in a junkyard without too much effort. If you can find the lid in a junkyard, you should also be able to get the metal rod with it (unless someone pulled it off and tossed the rod). I guess if worse comes to worse, you could always replace the console for one without a broken lid, but that jumps your price up. I still have the old lid I pulled off mine that only has the one connecting support (so it wobbles side to side when you open it, but still holds on well enough) if you're just looking to get it connected. I don't have a spare rod, though.

that's the same exact thing that happened to mine the plastic on the lid broke off. u explained it better lol. I looked at all the junk yards..already picked over for the most part

They will work if the stock dash isn't smashed to pieces. But you will be able to tell its a cap.
Personally i think the extra 150.00 for a new one is worth it.

Do you need a dash or the dash top filler between the gauges and windshield?

hes talking about the dash top i believe.
My 95 had a cracked dash. and i put a cap on it for about a year. then replaced it with a new one. I couldnt live with the way it looked personally.

yea the top part of the dash is what im talking about it just has 2 heat cracks in it not bad but enough to bother me considering the rest of the car is immaculate haha

Once I get my replacement dash pad from NuckinFutz93, I plan to take it somewhere to get it vinyl wrapped to prevent the chance it will ever crack again. Plus it'll make the dash have a nice uniform look all the way back to the windshield.

is it a carpet pad? or plastic cover?
Blackbird96WS6
01-19-2013, 01:11 PM
It's the OEM replacement piece out of a wrecked car. But I'm gonna get it wrapped so that it will hopefully never crack again, since the vinyl should absorb any UV rays that hit it and won't weaken the plastic.

good idea, how much did you pay for it?

NuckinFutz gave me an awesome deal on it (I'll let him post up how much it was if he wants to out of courtesy). Once it arrives though, I'll start making some calls and see how much I get quoted for the vinyl wrapping and post that up here to see if you guys think it's a fair price.
