Willcox Corvette is having a short sale this weekend, so I'm trying to figure out which molding I need to buy form them. I know where the molding is bad on the car, but I can't nail down which peices I need to get from that website. The descriptions are vague to me. So I'm enlisting some LTXtech help.
Here are the areas mine are bad:
Top of windshield
http://ltxtech.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=14492&d=1358056730
Front of both door windows
http://ltxtech.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=14491&d=1358056723
Rear of both door windows
http://ltxtech.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=14490&d=1358056702
Small amount at top of passenger and driver window
http://ltxtech.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=14489&d=1358056693
Basically looking into which ones I need to buy and I've also heard there are different grades of weather stripping as well. The hatch stripping is good, so I don't really need a whole kit.
Also what glue do you buy/use?

Thanks guys.

I am not sure on the glue, Ive never had to re instal any of the stripping.
But I have a suggestion for you... why dont you see if someone on the corvette forum is interested in a hatch stripping... and that way you buy the whole kit then sell the hatch to someone else. May save you money in the long run.
PS- I LOVE YOUR SWEATSHIRT!

If you are going to start replacing the weather stripping, you need to do it all at once. The new will be thicker than the old, inturn the old won't seal and you'll have leaks. Some people use glue, some don't, I use it, but use very little.
I just ordered 2 sets of weather stripping for my 95 and the 94 project car.

Thanks POPO.
I may just get a kit and keep the hatch stuff for later or sell it. Sucks having to buy the whole thing, but since I'm not sure which ones I need it might be nearly the same cost anyways. Are there different quality/types of stripping? Sometimes I see "USA" and "Import" listed, comments on that?
I'm going to take a closer look at the car tonight, take off the Targa, and check the old stripping everywhere. I'll report back.

What about this: http://www.zip-corvette.com/ProductDetails/Kits/KitDetails.aspx?KitItemID={d5e085a6-a185-4b53-bd9a-756cd9b625c0}&gid={cc26aa08-1577-4218-a303-4a2ea6bb7f2d}&GroupName=Weatherstrip+Packages&pname=90-96+Cpe+Body+Weatherstrip+Kit+(6PC)&Referer=&Alias=&ptct=SGR-SR&CTitle=&
I just checked and my hatch top and bottom are perfect, but all around the doors [top, bottom, front, side], top of windshield, are falling apart. Would that kit about work, and how's their quality vs Willcox? I'm confused by the comparison to OEM vs Import reproduction vs EDPM vs ???
Then there is Ecklers : http://www.ecklerscorvette.com/corvette-coupe-weatherstrip-kit-1990-1996.html
Pricey, but claims the best...

From my understanding, Wilcox and Ecklers sell the same brand USA made kit. I don't know about Zip tho. Everybody seems to swear by the Wilcox kit. I haven't recieved my Wilcox kits yet, so I can't comment on quality, but 300 people can't be wrong. LOL. If you don't need the hatch kit, just save it. You never know when you tear your rear rubber while using the car. Thats my plan with the extra strips for my 95. The 94 needs all of it.
Side note: Are you enjoying the Vette?

Willcox"
Total comes to $363 before discount, whole kit is $433 before discount. After discount it's $323 vs 390, basically $70 for the hatch stuff. Says it's all made in the USA stuff, so I understand why people probably swear by it.

I'm thinking about going without the hatch stuff and spending that money on this:

Since I head the antenna try to go up, but there is nothing inside...

Thats def a great price... remember ANYTHING for a CORVETTE is more expensive than for any other car. But thats a great deal, and Im sure you can find someone on CF to buy that hatch piece from you if you dont want it.

Ever messed with the antenna? I'm not huge on listening to the radio, but it's nice to be able to get the channels in.

Also just noticed something, the rear glass/hatch stripping... Mine is two pieces, most of what I see they are one piece... The bottom corners where the roll bar meets the body, the whole corner is missing and I can see a drain hole there. Probably 2-3 inches on the vertical and horizontal...
If I'm understanding the sale correctly I should be able to get 15% off over $500. Whole kit + antenna + glue + coolant cap = >$500.

I found several people online saying it's supposed to be 1 piece, that's just another reason to just get the whole kit. Looks like the previous owner must have cut it so it would be easier to install.

Once I checked a saw the gaps I knew it was probably an issue. Thanks NuckinFutz. PS Does yours have the drain holes or did someone add those to mine?
LOL @ Giggidy.
Ok, order placed, time to go finish the Corvette so I can drive it again.

Yeah, drains are factory.
popo8
01-13-2013, 11:32 PM
Also.. MAKE SURE the drain in the fuel door compartment is free flowing...if water builds up in there, it will get in through the cap and into your fuel.
