When pulling out my passenger side header I snapped a sensor just behind the 3rd spark plug. I thought it was the knock sensor but I looked it up and the connection doesn't look the same. Then I thought it was the coolant temp sensor but then found out that's on the drivers side. So I'm lost.

Sure looks like the gauge coolant temp sensor. Are those iron heads?

in the head i would guess a coolant sensor, perhaps gauge. I dont have on on my pass head, only drivers head and water pump. Did L99 have them there?

Do you have any better pictures Matt? How many wires are going to the sensor? Can you take a picture of the plug?

Well I've always wondered what the random one wire running across my engine was. I think I have cast heads. There's no coolant sensor on the drivers side but there's a wire running across to it. So was someone just a cheap ass and put cast heads on?? Would valve covers and intake just bolt on to them??

i am 99% sure that is the coolant sensor for the PCM should be in water pump

The pcm water temp sensor uses 2 wires. Maybe the b bodies had the sensor on the passenger side.

Hmmm.. did the one for the gauge use just 1 wire?

The one on the driver's side only uses one wire.

I bet some one swaped heads and put the drivers side on the pass side. That looks like the head temp sensor.

Are the LT1 heads interchangeable in that the driver's side can go on the passenger side?

Those are definitely iron heads - Matt said they have rust on them.

I would thin so. Just like the gen 1 motors

That's deffinitly the head Coolant temp sensor. Normally its in between cylinder 1/3 on the drivers side so looks like the heads were swapped side. They can go on either way just a matter of switching around block off plugs and stuff. I did it on mine because the steam pipe threads on the back were almost totally screwed up so I swapped them and just switched the solid plugs around.
That sensor will work fine on either side. There should be a solid plug between 1/3 on the drivers side just switch it with the sensor if u want to move it.

Make sure u take a pic of the plug with you. I broke mine removing my headers too. Autozone had 3 different 2 wires and that's what they showed for both sensor locations. Oreilly had the 1 wire but also showed 2 wires at both locations. Just have toblook for the 1 wire on their list. They had One for like 13$ and one for 20$. I bought the cheaper one and it was bad outbid the box. The 20$ has been perfect. Just a heads up.

They're definitely iron heads, now I need to find out if its a stock block. I may have an impala ss motor which would kind of explain my low track times. Where can I find the vin number on the block?? Thank for all the help guys. Kind of disappointed to find out I have iron heads but hoping I still have the Fbody cam.

Look on the passenger or drivers side of the block just above the oil pan for the numbers "327" or "588". They are about 2" tall.

I posted in your thread on MiFBody, but for reference here's the location for the VIN stamp:

Do you have a jet fan switch? If so, that could be the sensor for the fan switch.
