I know a lot of you guys pick up tools from time to time. So post it up when you get something new!!!!

I'll start cause I freaking killed it at Sears today. Gotta love family giving gift cards for Christmas. Just rounding out my work box, filling some gaps. Some of this shit was DAMN expensive for what it is (like the 1/2" drive Impact swivel, that bastard was $45!). But, even though it's Craftsman, I picked, chose, and EVERYTHING is good old Made in the USA.

Jackass at the counter left my 3" mini sledge out of my bags though, and I missed it cause I was pissed and ready to GTFO of that god-forsaken place. Poor service, crumby people wishy washying and holding the line up, etc. Now I gotta make a 30 minute trip back, and try to talk them into giving me the hammer that I don't have.

And my first OFFICIAL Snap-On purchases today. These were out of pocket, but I can't live without them. Talon Grip pliers FTW. And the Blue Point GM Single Brake Spring tool is a life saver.

Nothing to show, but I picked up (finally) the last of my missing wrenches to top off my 6 point Craftsman Raised Panel set. According to the open stock catalog, I now own every 6 point RP wrench. Eyeballing the larger (1"+ and 21mm+) Professional wrenches now since they're going away. Summit has the Metric set for $89 and the SAE set for $129......and I have $20 in summit bucks burning a hole!!! Gotta wait though....move next week is gonna hurt.

No tools so to speak but I did get a 50' Kobalt Hose Reel for Christmas. I'll be mounting to the rafters in between my bay doors just in time for me to spray my engine bay before the engine goes in.

These are bad ass! Too rich for my blood though. I will probably grab an air impact from Harbor Freight soon.

This is my latest addition: http://www.harborfreight.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/i/m/image_21233.jpg

Not exactly a tool, but gets the job done. I bought it when I spent a Saturday afternoon jumping vehicles. Never again! There are fans inside of it to keep it cool and the gauges work well.

If I borrow a tool more than a few times, I need to get it. There are a few tools (300 lb torque wrench, owned by a co-worker, used twice in the 10 yrs I've been there) I just can't justify cost to benefit from it.

I had that guy and got rid of it for this setup. WAY stronger for a little 12v Li setup. actually blows the snap on one away in power for small stuff. (dash work , under hood work , etc.)

Snap-On is running a deal right now. KRL722 box in either Extreme Green or Orange, and a color matched FREE Solus Ultra, for $6300. I'm seriously considering going into debt for it, and selling things bit by bit if I need funds to pay for it. I could use a good box, and I could be very seriously freed up to start working towards a genuine shop of my own with a scanner like that, not to mention we desperately need one at the shop I'm at now.

Not going with the Snap On stuff. Matco is making me a better deal. I'm borrowing a Launch to get used to it. Mainly, if I'm goinna drop the silly coin on a deal like this, I'm gonna get the box I want, not to settle. I like the Solus Ultra, but I don't like you can't get a scope attachment for it. The Launch isn't as intuitive, but it comes pre-loaded with Euro also, and you can get a scope kit for it too.

FSTFBDY
05-10-2013, 07:49 PM
Cool. all the big name boxes are nice. Go with the best deal.

I have a Launch x431 diagun and never use it. Such a waste of $$ IMO It gets used once every few months if that.
Another decent one I have is an http://www.auteltech.com/autelcms/Automotive%20Diagnostic&%20Analysi/341.jhtml I use this as much as my ultra.

As for a scope I had an snap on verus but god it was a SLOW POS. processor speed was the down fall. I ended up trading it back in on the ultra. Then a few months later they just upgraded the units and are much better now.

Fastbird
05-10-2013, 08:03 PM
The Launch I'd be getting is the X431 GDS. I played with it some today but it was on older (late 90's early 00's) Ford pos's so there wasn't much to see. I need to dig into it more and see if there's adjustable settings because I felt the refresh/frame rate was horrid and the data output format was terrible also. But first impression wasn't great.

I like the Solus, am familiar with it, but don't really like the box I'd get as part of the package deal. So I'm torn. I want the Matco 6S double bay, and a Solus Ultra. Someone find me THAT in a package deal. lol

gregpenechar
05-10-2013, 08:35 PM
I also really like the Solus Ultra. It's my shops main scan tool. The Launch never really gets used. If you get a chance to use the Verus Pro, it is pretty awesome, our distributor let us rent one for a month. It does graphing and you can have multiple tabs to run ShopKey so you're not running back and forth looking up service info. Pretty awesome.. and pretty damn expensive.

Just picked up one of these to do the fenders on the Audi. Saw it was on sale on facebook of all places. Figured it would be good to have. I need to do the fenders on the Trans Am eventually but I needed BADLY to roll the fenders on the Audi to get the new wheels under there as you can see.

Steve can I borrow that off of you? My T/A desperately needs it for the drag wheels and my Celica could use it also....not quite as tight as your Audi but close, lol.

After my snap on drill driver switch broke, I thought I would try the Milwaukee M12 line up. I have to say I'm very pleased with the drill,1/4" impact driver, and the 1/4 ratchet can hang with my snap on 1/4" rachet for a third of the cost. Time will tell but so far they have been worth every penny.

I know its alil late but the M12 and the M18 Fuel's are some of the best cordless tools on the market. I just bought a Dewalt 18V cordless 1/4 impact and I'll never go back to a regular drill.

Im hopping this gives me a long run. Most of its work will be gauge and toggle switch holes in CF.

So it should last a while.

Here are my latest purchases. A new tool box (my current one is overflowing), a gas pressure washer and the big brown box is a 20 ton press if I ever get to unpacking and setting it up.

Gotta start somewhere lol. I would love to have an air press like my boss has, but I don't have shop air at home and I think at this stage in the game the extra loot would be better spent elsewhere. (Like a DC tig machine and oxyacetyline welding/cutting torch rig among other things)

That HF press is more than enough for most general service shops and personal garages out there. The press works great. Do watch out for the arbor plates it comes with though, those are VERY prone to breaking, usually explosively under pressure.

Noted. I don't think that I will be putting them under that much pressure though. I mainly got it for pressing piston pins and rod bolts in and out and whatever other odd job I'm might need to do. I don't forsee me needing to press out axle stubs (the guy that built my 8.8 damn near destroyed a 12 ton press in the process of doing that. He said the top beam was bowed really badly before the sucker finally gave. I'm suprised the press was still good after that.) or anything else requiring that much pressure for that matter.

More new tools tonight. I'll have to get pics tomorrow, the tool box is strapped in and covered up and it's just too cold right now to take pics of anything else.

Finally invested in a little bit larger box for work, caught a sweet deal on an older craftsman box that was discounted down to 675 from over 1600. Also bought a basic tool set so I wouldn't have to take any of my home tools in.

Those new CM wrenches are VERY similar to the Snappy Flank Drive stuff. For the money, they're a great deal. Sadly though, being China made........

Just got this in the mail. 40(I think)-250 ft/lbs. Never used a split-beam wrench like this. I always say if I need to borrow a tool from a friend more then once, especially in a small amount of time (like within the same month), then I might as well just invest in my own.

I have the same one. You won't be disappointed with it. I Checked mine against out trq checker at the shop and it was dead on to the ft lb. Also with a split beam you don't have to wind them down.

IIRC PI invented the split-beam and snap-on re-brands them or they used to re-brand them. Seriously love how easy it is to dial in and all that.

Reminds me I gotta get my 10-100 ft/lbs wrench checked out asap. I'm not so certain it's very accurate after all these years of abuse. If it's not accurate enough are they adjustable or is it just better to get a new one (not opposed to a new one honestly).

Picked this up today for a small job, $17.11 out the door.

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i177/Fastbird93/Corolla/Fuel%20Door%20Replacement/0405141633_zps2fa84bf4.jpg (http://s72.photobucket.com/user/Fastbird93/media/Corolla/Fuel%20Door%20Replacement/0405141633_zps2fa84bf4.jpg.html)

Needed it because the stinking rivets that hold the fuel door on my beater 01 Corolla are 1/4" rivets. My little hand pop rivet gun only goes to 3/16. Thought I was going to have to rig something (got a junkyard replacement fuel door since my stock one had a broken hinge pin), but found the above at Harbor Freight. For the money, it's AWESOME. Made very easy mince meat of the 1/4" rivets I used today. Awesome leverage with the long handles. Only downside is the sheer size won't let it fit into tight spaces. But other than that, it's a worthy investment.
