i am pretty sure my car is throwing in the towel ... got it all back together and a few days later its making a knocking sound:shiner:... well i am looking for a CHEAP daily driver and really want a Geo tracker (always liked them little buggers)

any way ... i am going to build a motor for the car 355 or 357 keep the cubes small spend. and build a nitrous motor.

i have to get a DD for the time being ... car still runs but each time i drive it the knocking gets worse and the oil psi starts good but once warm it drops like a rock and right now at idle in drive oil psi dips all the way down to under 8-9 psi ... in the past it would warm at idle in drive and the lowest i ever saw was 15-17 psi

i have a autometer oil psi gauge in the vent hole so i can watch it closer ... and its dropping the more i drive it ... but still runs for now ... i will drive it till it throws the rod out completely or i get 0 psi

With winter here IDK about running a thicker oil, but at the same time if its already on the way out what the hell right. Additionally, Its likely from the cam that gotten eaten up debris all that fun. I would personally stop driving it now (if you can) and you may be able to salvage the crank and other components.

Agree with chris. With pressure dropping like that its probably already spun some bearings.

With his mentality being IM GONNA DRIVE IT TILL IT BLOWS...thats what I figured also Chris.

If I had to swing motor to throw in it all day long I would say let's toss a 200 shot at it and go have some fun but at the same time a 355 with the nitrous build that stock crank it going to hold up pretty good so lets not tear the s*** out of it. Dictated but not read.

Maybe its because I haven`t drove my camaro in ~3yrs but isnt 15psi @ idle low too? I wanna say I`ve never seen mine below 40

i guess for my vortec but idk about the lt1 for every 1k rpm 10 psi is "acceptable". my truck sits at about 18-20 psi at idle so i freaked but the ppl on the truck forum said its ok but i am watching it fairly close.

on a side note trackers hate anything 60+ mph and 15+ mph winds.they absolutly feel like a gocart on a wet track when it rains too

if im not mistaken oil pressure for an kt1 is acceptable down to 8-10 lbs at idle according to GM

Yeah i just went n took a peak @ my gauge n it was just how I remembered it, needle still on 40, will go up to 70. I have a feeling its not the stock spring..

zooguy

yeah i am hoping to maybe get it up an running by the shoot out (i really want to go this year) its knocking hard core

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8gvM-zi9ZQ

i dont think i will get enough form my tax return to get it fixed but it might cover the the machine work ... maybe ... i pay about 875 each month in expenses and only make about 950 -1000 a month

so yeah ... but i applied for a different position in the company and that should go up to about 1700 a month

i need to get the motor out of the car and see what i can sell to fund the rebuild ... a old friend from high school said he wanted the rods out of the car for some reason ... i will have no use for them cause i want a fully forged bottom end to handle nitrous.
so we will see how it goes

step one and first purchase is a motor stand

If you want to make it to the shootout, want a forged internals, & thats what you have to work with $$ wise.. Have you thought about buying a junkyard motor to throw in ther & spay the hell outa it @ the shootout? Thats what I would do, & I think I`m like you, if your gonna do it, do it right. When mine pops I`ll spend how ever long it takes me to afford it the way I want it so a junker will be going in. W/e you do GL making it to the shootout! After all these years- knock on wood- its lookin like I`m gonna be able to make this one...but most likely just watching cause I dont think I`ll be able to swing both getting it going again & a good rear.. Prob just gonna thro a junkyard rear on for the drive down...if I dont kill my rear within a day of getting my z back on the road! Hahah

zooguy
02-01-2013, 08:39 AM
i did that once and the motor only lasted 2 years

and now that one is broke

z_speedfreak
02-01-2013, 08:49 AM
A few hundred bux for 2yrs? Nothin wrong w/ that! & 2yrs to build a motor is 4x more time than the next shoot out

zooguy

umm i got raped ... the motor in it now was like 3200 installed at a shop

Larry (Popo8) Co-owner
LTXtech.com Make sure you watch that oil pressure like a hawk the 6.0 vortecs like most ls motors have a known issue where the oring on the oil pickup can twist and oil pressure goes to the floor and you spin bearings... I have a lq4 and a l33 that suffered from that issue and I picked them up for a steal so I am just going to polish the cranks and rebuild them and the 6.0 is going in my s10 blazer with the 799 heads off the l33. it is a common issue so you don't end up with a dead motor

Yea bought the car w/ a couple basic bolt ons so I dont think the internals were touched, I know all the hardware is basic GM TTY from when I opened her up.. Yet my oil pressure makes me think somin was done to the internals. Casey`s is sky high but hes got an HV pump & prob an upgraded spring. W/e the case is, runs like a champ and the last 40k miles were some hard miles goin WOT @least twice every day I`d drive it. Why pay 4 super in a gas hog if your not going to rage it right

Remember Larry, the 8-10 rule is min average increase, My engine picks up 15 psi for every 1k. I'm at 80psi @2500 from a 50psi warm idle.

Zooby, If there is anything I can do to help, just let me know. We can get you a good engine to you for less than 200.00 shipping.
