What really grinds my gears... is when I am polite and a gentleman and I open the door and hold it for people..... because I clearly got there first, and we are going the same place, yet when we get inside, they get in line ahead of me, without even offering..."go ahead, you wouldve been before me...if you werent so damn nice..."

Happened everyday this week at the post office as I went with a large bag of packages (evil opti hoodies) in my hands.... I would still stop and open the door and allow others ahead of me... then when inside... Im behind them in line....
I dont even want to go ahead of them... I just want to know they appreciated me holding the door, either cause they were older than dirt...or their hands were full, etc....

What really grinds my gears is the idiots who try to commit suicide by truck. They like to get up really close behind me like they are going to make me move. To put this a little into perspective, I drive a 1 ton dually. It's usually the people in the little econo box crush can cars that try to push me. I wonder sometimes if people really value their lives or is natural selection trying really, really hard to thin out the herd?

I think it's because it's not legal to shoot stupid people anymore. Or otherwise cause them permanent harm. If it were me, I would have called it in, that's still impaired, even if they haven't had a drop to drink.

yeah, it sucks living anywhere that is built up. No one has any respect for anyone else.

As far as the girl goes, that's when you make the call and have your girlfriend get video evidence. I know the local PD around the base I was stationed was always real interested in pics/vids of people messing with their cell phones while driving, especially if you could get the plate and the person in the same pic/vid.

I do get a little revenge in my own way though, when I drive home from school, my exit is on the left, so I just get in the left lane and set the cruise control about 62/63 and ride it out. Once I'm in that lane, I don't have to get out of it pretty much until I get home, which leads to hilarity as people who are in a hurry try and push me out of the way. Most people figure it out pretty quick that I'm not going to get out of the way, but every so often I get that one dumb ass who just can't figure it out. It's not like the highways are super packed either, and we are already going over the speed limit, so I feel no obligation to get out of the way when someone who is late comes barrelling up behind me doing 70-75 or more. Poor planning on their part does not constitute an emergency on my part.

Speaking of highway annoyances, I get a small revenge on the tailgaters. I like to slow way down when I know they can't pass, and drift across the line when they can just to keep them behind me longer. It's like saying hey, if your gonna ride my a$$, at least pull my hair

And for the eh holes that want to run 90 and pass 6-7 cars at once, I hit my left hand signal when I see them coming up behind me and lightly ride my brakes to make sure they slow down. Once behind me I repeat the first paragraph lol

If your gonna be an eh hole on the road, I'm gonna do my best to piss you off and slow you down.

It was great one day, I wound up in a rolling road block with a transit bus and some kind of box truck. We were across the left three lanes of the highway for about 5 miles until the bus reached it's exit. The guy directly behind me had to have a death wish, I've never seen the charge and swerve performed so recklessly before. Two things right now grinding my gears. KMart/Sears outsourcing the once revered craftsman name out to china, and we get lobster claw open ended wrenches back (not to mention cheap metal and poor finish at the same price the USA stuff was). And then Sears' website being HORRIBLY unreliable......like a solar panel at night would work better. I did 5 hours driving yesterday to hit three Sears Outlet stores and start myself a good backup/home tool set since come next month my primary tool set will be staying at the shop. Of course, nothing that the website says the store has is there. I did get some good stuff (will post pics) but not what I wanted and expected.

Oh, and missed shifts ALWAYS grind my gears. :D

It's an epidemic of entitlement here in Detroit - people think just because they're in the left lane going 70mph (our speedlimit) that they're OK even though they're not passing anyone or worse yet they're staying even with the car in the lane next to them. Drives me absolutely nuts when I have to go three lanes over to the right lane to get around road hogs. Admittedly, I normally drive 80-85mph so 90% of the time, I'm going faster than the traffic in the middle and right lanes. No matter my speed, even if I'm doing 85mph in a 70mph, when I have someone come up behind me wanting to go faster, I always make it a point to get over as soon as possible and let them go by...

But for people who *routinely* brake check or play with other vehicles in traffic, I'd like to think there's a special place in hell reserved for them. If people brake check me, I always have to fight the urge to get them back and that type of escalation is not good at all... I always chuckle when people get upset when I go around them. Just a couple of weeks ago I had a guy who was going 70mph in the left lane. When I had an opening, I sped up and went around him. I continued on my way thinking nothing about it as his car got smaller in my rear view mirror. About a mile or two up the road, he apparently had a delayed pissed off reaction because then he came storming up on my tail with his brights on. I got over, he turns his brights off and slows back down. Seeing that he was slowing down and just messing with me, I got back into the left lane and accelerated back up to my normal speed when he puts his brights on and is flashing them at me, though not keeping up. :laugh: Some people just don't make sense.

Traffic by far is my biggest gear grinder. Especially rush hour to and from work. The highway I have to take has a bunch of bends and undoubtedly people slam on their brakes when we are in the bend. I understand coasting through the bends, but going from 60ish to 40 in the turn blows. There's also a lot of overpasses and hills, and I swear this morning while it was borderline freezing out and reports of freezing rain over night, everytime I got onto an overpass (where risk of ice is going to be high), people in front of me would hit their brakes. :mad:

flashing your head lights is a courtesy, saying "hey im moving faster then you, please move over" it is people like you i want to run off the road. But this could just be my mind set after spending a few years in germany driving on the autobahn....i am a firm believer that the left lane is ONLY for passing...so stay the F out of it....

There are a few LEO's I know that have a practice of pulling folks over for violating the passing lane rules. If you're not actively passing someone and they can count to 10, your getting a ticket. Where I live there is a plethora of pruis owners think it's their job to 'regulate' traffic. They won't move over for any reason at all, I consider it a restriction of my freedom and that is why I'm upgrading my trucks broken factory horn to a grover air horn...

I don't screw with anyone while I drive, if they are driving fast, by all means get in front, BUT don't get in front and slow down. A motto I like is "Lead, Follow, or get the phuck out of the way!"

What really grinds my gears is when I'm on the highway, the guy in front of me is going like 5-8 over in a 55 zone then he slows down to like 50, I'm like WTF? If they only do it like once I won't pass em but if it's like continuous then I'll pass. So I go over to the left lane and get back up to 60 and try to pass him but now he's doing like 60 now. Ok, now were just driving side by side. There's a line of cars in front of him and cars behind him so I can't really get over without speeding (I don't speed, don't want a ticket and it saves gas). I look over and usually there yaking on the phone or something. So now there's people inches from my bumper (which really ticks me off) and I'm trying to get over but can't.

I have a new "grinder of my gears."

Big trucks. That being anything 3/4 ton and up. I've had three hellacious days in the shop. Let me begin:

Monday: working on a 98 Chevy K2500 that's been sitting for about two years. Last week we (read I, since I'm a SME on brake line stuff according to my boss) replaced EVERY hard line on the car with new custom made by me lines. So monday my job was to tackle the "other stuff". That being all four ball joints, front brakes, rear brakes.

The ball joints weren't that bad. Uppers had to have the rivets chiseled off then driven out. Lowers I took joy with a 7 lb mini sledge and some aggression release. Only took about 5 shots per and the lowers were out (Dave says I'm a ball joint specialist). But the brakes, for whatever the fuck reason, the engineers made it where the rotor is attached to the REAR of the hub, and held in by the damn lug nuts! SERIOUSLY? It helped that I had the spindles off the truck already, but of course, we had to torch off all the bolts on one of the spindles. Replaced the passenger side caliper already. And of course, putting it back together, thinking I'm going to get it all done that day, I find the passenger caliper piston frozen. shit.

Tuesday: First thing in the AM, get the passenger caliper in and on, brakes bled. Move the truck to a spot where it can sit, get the rear drums off and out to be turned (our turning machine isn't big enough for these MASSIVE drums). Go to swap the rear shoes......shit, it needs wheel cylinders. And of freaking course, the engineers strike again. There is literally like 1.5" of space between the backing plate and leaf springs. This prompted a tool purchase today (sears gift cards from my Citi Thank You Reward points, got the dual ratcheting wrenches for $80 for both 8 piece sets with my craftsman club discount, yes, I KNOW these are china ones, but they're useful as all get out in certain situations, especially the open end ratchet feature). Managed to get it all done, waiting on rotors.

Today: Drums show back up. Go to adjust, one side was fine. the other side, I notice that the shoes aren't sitting fully. Of course, the e-brake cable isn't releasing. Oh my god, this piece of shit pile truck. FINALLY got them freed up, and got it done after another couple hours of screwing around. then I moved on to a 2004 F350 that needed passenger side ball joints. Of course, this is a solid front axle HD truck that has the big seal on the back of the spindle that you have to destroy and replace to get the axle out so you can drop the spindle off the ball joints. this was a NICE well cared for truck, but these things collect rust like you wouldnt' believe. Got it apart OK save for separating the spindle. it took literally over an hour with the air hammer and a variety of chisels to get it separated. New ball joints were R&R'd in under 20 minutes. Then goign back together, all of the freaking STUDS that hold the spindle on had distorted. really Ford? Studs? Why not bolts like Dodge? So much more practical. Spent the afternoon working the studs over so the nuts would bite. Get the seal in, spindle back on, and of course, the depth isn't set right, and I can't get the snap ring on the axle.

It's ALWAYS something with these damn 3/4 ton and up trucks. /rant

Try changing the trans on a 4x4 Duramax (late model GM) with the Allison trans sometime. I used to drop the starter and leave it hanging to get at the offset hole in the bell to get at the converter bolts, oh by the way they are 12 point and God help you if you drop one inside it because you will be pulling the trans all over again just to get the damed bolt back you dropped inside. I HATED doing those things back when I worked for the General.

I did a ton of them back in the day and dropped the converter bolt once, I used to tape them to the socket but the tape gave way and I was lucky enough that all I had to do was loosen up the trans bolts and fish it out.

What really grinds my gears are jerks who use passing lanes as travel lanes. STAY TO THE RIGHT EXCEPT TO PASS! Remeber that from drivers ed? If people wouldnt hog the outside lane(s) there wouldn`t be those F&F idiots who weave in & out of traffic like a damn solom course. Even worse is when your on a 2lane hwy/rd and these bozos drive side by side the whole way doing the speelimit or slower. Where im from the speedlimits are set extra low cause so many people die during the summer tourist season(which doesnt matter in the summer cause your lucky to hit 30 on the hwy), but in the off season everyone goes 15 over the limit(the old limit 15yrs ago) w/ the popo`s blessing.....unless you get stuck behind these double wide d**k heads. What grinds my gears even more is when the local police pull people over for passing on the right, yet NEVER pull any one over for failure to stay right! But what grinds my gears the most are NYC taxi drivers when im driving the box truck making deliveries. Wont even get in2 that!

I know right???? Geez these guys could have hit a kid or a bystander, dont get me wrong cause I do feel bad for the dogs but that was not the right call on the part of the coppers involved and anybody who knows me will tell you that I will rarely ever side against the police because I do believe in them but as they are also people they make mistakes and this is one of them.

The welfare society in Detroit that think they are entitled to being on our roads and driving however the hell they want. I'm driving 75mph in the right lane, open lane in front and behind me, pickup truck in the middle lane next to me but about 2 car lengths ahead, and a hooptie in the left lane. As I come up to the pickup, this dumb bitch in the hooptie signals she wants to move over to the right, so she signals and merges into the middle lane. Meanwhile I'm still going faster than both of them and since no one is behind me, I don't slow down because we're over a mile from the next exit and I figure she has plenty of time to get behind me. She keeps her signal on and quick merges in front of me to the point that I had to nosedive in the Camaro to avoid ramming her up the ass. She then proceeds to drive 55mph until we take the same exit. We exit the freeway and it's 3 lanes wide, the left lane and middle lane to go straight and the right lane to turn right. She sits inbetween the middle lane and the right lane with her blinker on to turn right so I can't get next to her and chew her out. :rant:

A few weeks ago I was driving up I75 in a very light traffic area and I'm in the left lane going 80mph, two cars in the middle lane probably going about 70-75mph. As I am coming up in the left lane, the one car signals to get in the left lane like they're going to overtake the other car in front of them. They were far enough ahead that I just took my foot off the gas and coasted down so I wouldn't come up on the guy too quickly. The car merges into the left lane and then sits there going 70mph, not passing the car that was in front of them. After about a mile or two, I'm sick of it and had to merge all the way to the right lane to go around them. The guy then slowly merges back over into the middle lane behind the car he was originally following. As far as I could tell, he got over with the sole intention of slowing me down. :rant:

I live on the main street that goes through my subdivision. First off the speed is too fast at 30 mph. A couple years ago they finished off the end of the street and extended it to a main route through our town. If you enter that side and drive through our neighborhood you miss one light. The speed on the main roads is 55 outside the subdivision. People like to cut through to miss that light. Somehow the idiots think our neighborhood has no speed limit. They just fly through. There are a crapload of kids in my neighboor hood. Keep in mind though it is a small residential area with maybe 200 homes. We have had two incidents that I personally know of. One involved a car vs. Suv that the car ran a stop sign, hit the suv with a mother and small child two houses from where they lived. The suv fliped on its side, the mothers head hit the curb and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Child was ok. She was a single mother. I saw it happen and was on the scene.

The other incident happened when my wife was on the road we live on with my oldest son who at the time was on his learners permit. They drove to the grocery store at the end of our subdivision and were traveling back home. a car came from a side street with a stop sign and blew it and t boned our Lincoln Navigator. My son saw it last min and had enough sense to speed up and turn slightly into the impact and avoided the car hitting my wife in the passenger seat. He was hit just behing the passenger front door. This caused $24,000 worth of damage to our truck and totaled the other car that was a week old.

Its just a matter of time until a you child gets hit with these idiots that rip through. Everyone has called the polkce to voice their frustration. Nothing is getting done about it other than a mobile radar trailer set up once in awhile. I swear if one of my kids get hit it will be a bad day for however hits them and they will remember who I am for the rest of their lives.

I work in the motorsports industry & we are a bit slow right now. Techs are actually taking turns getting RO's. The owner of our shop can go through the parts dept & see them surfing the web or whatever else & he joins the convo & jokes around with them. Yet, if he comes to the svc dept & he sees us sitting around or surfing with nothing to do. He will go complain to the svc mgr for him to find us something to do it send us home.

To add salt to the wound I get a txt from someone and long story short it is the ex and she is now dating a mechanic... "school trained mechanic" well over the 5 years we were together I built her car up slightly. Now she has a coolant leak from neglect. MR school boy checked the coolant psi yay you get a cookie but it is still leaking somewhere... wellI see coolant on the oil filter adapter... well that could the WP or the plastic coolant elbows or heater core hoses. She proceeds to ask me what it could be... It has a new WP as of 1.5 years ago and new elbows but they are known to fail or at least weep some. well that leaves the heater core lines and I told her this a week ago before the pressure test. but he said it could be a heater core related issue.... Thank you captain obvious but any wrencher worth a shit would know to stick some dye in it after the engine is clean and look for the leak but school boy doesn't think of that till after the fact. The scary part is he is out there working on other people's vehicles and ppl wonder why I invest in tools and lifts to do my own work... it is idiots like this who have caused me to distrust the pros for most things....

I am sorry if I offend any pro mechanics on her but come the hell on.... nice upgrade hun... wonder if he had to look at relationships for dummies too

Sleepapnea grinds my gears... I'm fat, but it's all in the stomach and thighs... Dr said that I just naturally have a restricted opening for air flow causing the sleepapnea. Don't know how long I've had it - I'm starting to think I've had it even when I was in middle school and high school when I was a twig weight wise... I'm on the CPAP treatment where you strap a mask to your face with a hose connected to it and a machine pressurizes your throat so it can't collapse and cut off air. Go to bed at 9 last night, fell asleep around 10:30ish... fought the damn mask all through the night... Get up at 5am and I'm dog tired. Treatment is working great. :mad: I think I'm going to have to ask the sleep apnea doctor for sleeping pills which I'm really not feeling great about... I don't want to get dependent on that but I can't stand feeling like I'm fighting to stay awake on my drive into work. Haven't ever dozed off behind the wheel before but I don't want it to happen at all either.

one of my favorite bands has been mislabelled as emo. seems like any music that has any type of angst or feelings expressed gets labelled emo these days.

they are actually pop punk. they are Simple Plan and i met them a few years ago at warped tour.

the first vid is one of my favorite songs. the second i really like as well and it's the one that caused the "Emo" label even though the song is about drinking and driving. note the LT1 trans am in the music video. thats how i was originally introduced to their music. and this third song. Gone too soon has a very deep meaning to me because they announced on their website they had finished recording the album on nov. 18, 2010. my dad passed away from a sudden heart attack later that very same day. the first time i heard this song (on father's day no less) it actually brought me to tears and kind of freaked me out since i remembered reading about the completion of the album a few hours before my dad died. i have had a weird connection with their music for years (first heard untitled because of the trans am and i almost bought a silver one before i bought the back one. i have had my car since before that song came out) and welcome to my life i first heard after almost having a nervous breakdown in 2006. a few weeks after the new album came out, they announced they were doing warped tour down here in FL and i went to see them and got to talk to them. they mentioned me on a video blog a few days before the concert ironically because i had asked a question about a contest they were doing.

Amen to that one. I ordered a 1992 Anniversary Camaro poster on eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/200875730231?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649) on January 15th. Estimated delivery of January 19th but it didn't arrive until the 24th. Open the poster tube up and it's the wrong damned poster. :rant: I was worried I was screwed because TECHNICALLY the poster he sent me matched the description of the ad, but the PICTURE in the ad was a 1992 Anniversary Edition poster. When I won the auction, I figured he just had the wrong years in the description and was basing the purchase off of the poster that was clearly pictured in the ad. Thankfully the guy said it was just a mistake and would send the correct poster out. He marked the item shipped (again) later that day. I'm still waiting for the poster. :rant: To add to the frustration, he's using First Class mail with no tracking option so I have no proof that he actually sent the poster at all. It's being shipped from NJ. I e-mailed him on February 7th and said "WTF are you WALKING it from New Jersey to Detroit? It shouldn't take 2 weeks!" and he replies saying he only sent it out the week before even though he marked it shipped on the 24th. If it's not in my mailbox when I get home from work tonight I'm filing a dispute with eBay. I've been trying to give the guy the benefit of the doubt but my patience is wearing really thin. What really pisses me off is that I even offered to mail him the wrong poster back on my own dime just so he wouldn't be out two posters for the price of one....

I went on 2 job interviews over the last 2 weeks for this place who wanted a Director of Maintenance and I thought it was all locked up because I ran an operation that was 10 times this size and even got interviewed by the CFO and COO of the company.
I was told just a few days ago that they are still looking and good luck?

I used to be responsible for the lives of my mechanics, drivers and passengers as well as millions of dollars worth of equipment.

I called my congressman Mike Thompson too and spoke to a member of his staff and he said he was out of work for a long time too and understands how I feel about all of this.
He said he was going to try to see if the congressman or his senior staff would be able to call me so we will see what happens.

Was on the exit ramp off the hwy 780 cloverleaf and a GIANT pickup truck was in the merge back on the the freeway lane going a good 60mph to my slowing down (2 lanes both same direction) to make the turn 30mph and he at the last sec jumped behind me and almost hit me, if I was the kind of driver that I see a lot of who is oblivious me and the wife would have been toast. This fool then stops at a house like 1 block away and I followed him there only to be made to turn around by my wet blanket wife because I was at first scared and then really angry. LOL I do that to my wife too if she's eating something that crunches a lot. She used to also sit as close to me as she could while eating, so it just amplified the sound cuz I have fairly sensitive hearing. She's learned that it really puts me in a bad mood fast, so she now proactively makes sure that there is something to drown out the sound for me. I know this is going to be very controversial -- but what really grinds my gears is seeing someone from the military driving a Toyota, Nissan, Honda, etc. Fought for our country only to fuck over our economy... :rant: This is mostly because I live in Detroit which of course is Ford, GM, and Chrysler territory.
