Constructive Criticism please

So I'm coming to you all for some constructive criticism. As many of you know back in the beginning of August we had some big changes here with the site.

For those that dont know, the Brewer Brother's sold me their shares and I partnered up with Sean W (Fastbird) as Co-owners of this wonderful site. And with the EXPERTISE of our other Admin (MEISSEN) I think the site has been operating as close to flawless as it ever has since I joined... I also took over the LTX facebook page and with the help of Miss Popo have been trying to make the activity on there to POP.

I'm only asking for critisism on me and my connection with all that is LTX.... if the other guys want criticism, I'm sure they will chime it (but I wouldn't want anyone giving criticism to anyone who does not ask for it.

Personally, I think that Fastbird and Meissen are the cats meow...lol... Couldnt ask for anything more from my Co-owner and Co-Admins...

So I come to you all asking...How am I doing???.... Recently, Ive had some issues with one members, who have left and not come back.... Ive had people message me things like, "Welcome to the communist ltxtech of popo where opinions are shunned," simply because I deleted comments that were derogatory towards someone else in our community, or negative for no reason... I remember one person telling me that Im 2 defensive or on a power trip......I know JOKES have been made that my new nick name is LOCKTITE because I have locked a few threads that I didnt want to see get any uglier...I have even seen some complain in other places about me from when I tried squashing a thread that had taken a multi page ugly turn on here....

Most of the time I have a pretty thick skin, but I figured, maybe its time to have everyone else s perspective.

Not saying I'm perfect, or that these negative things aren't true... but I figured I would come to you all to tell me....

No but seriously, sometimes locking a thread up is the best thing to do if its ripping the community apart. There's always going to be some people that don't agree with that decision.

cant please all of the people all of the time. If they have that attitude, let them go somewhere else and ruin that site. I unfortunatly didnt squash enough on my old site before it got out of hand and when I came down hard it killed the place cause by then the damage was done. Overall the this site is running well, no breakdowns, etc.. The stupid stuff is at a manageble minimum and for that matter all issues should be resolved via PM, email, or through mods/admin. That is why those things exist. Remember, this is the internetz where everyone is entitled to their own wrong opinion, totally infallable, and 10 feet tall behind that keyboard and screen. Dont sweat it Larry, this by far is still the most civil forum I am on and has the best sense of cummunity i have seen. It is kind of refreshing.

I second that. The personal touch and involvement on here really sets this community apart. Don't change a thing you're doing, Larry, keep up the awesome work! As stated before, you can't please everyone all the time, but then again, who needs to please trolls? ;)

If you delete someones thread or post for being derogatory, it deserved. You are on top of that more than anyone else IMO, and that's what's making this such a great place. I saw one of the threads and was a bit surprised by almost interrogative nature of some of your posts. I do understand sometimes its hard to turn off the ever vigilant and suspicious nature of being a leo. Imo just relax a little and take them at face value. If some one is a fake they will hang themselves in due time.

I can see were some people think yb is one big romper room. but there is only 2 sections that are not moderated. Here is a post buy the mod in the gun section. Its a pretty good representaion of most section.

This place has many great people who frequent the forum and everyone's input, help, suggestions, experiences are all welcome here. You may get challenged on your position but I'd like to make sure it's all kept friendly, decent language, patient, normal stuff that most of you have a grasp on.

You may challenge ones position and claim, but not an attack. Hard to draw the line but I think if we make an effort to be decent and patient in our approach as we are typing away on the keyboard, we will have a more successful point being made.


If the flavor of the thread begins to get sour and it is not about the content of the forum it'll have to get deleted or closed.


We typically do not come to a resolve on an internet message board. Something to keep in mind before we get too wrapped up in one thread.

I was gonna mention the informational but cluttered with unneeded posts on LS1Tech and the Bullet but Brian hit the nail on the head with this quoted post. Those sites are great for entertainment but you really have to search through some BS to get a good answer, not the case here. Tonight I was questioned on the cost of the new zip up hoodies, stating "$45 for a hoodie? when did yall turn into politicians?" as though I was trying to rape people over the cost....I simply responded by telling the individual that what we charge is right on par with the majority of quality products sold by other companies...

what does price have to do with being politicians. Seriously, if you feel as though you have a better way to handle quality, plus make an item available 24/7, plus include shipping, for less....please tell us. In reality, unless your a kmart shopper, or you dont care about having any type of quality just look around you, its the going rate for dark colored hoodies, with custom work on them. No one is forcing you to buy them....

Thank You man... I really pride myself on trying to know everything thats going on, on this site... I want to do my best to offer that personal touch... when someone references something that was said or discussed, I want to be able to offer opinion or knowledge or simply a listening ear to keep people from having to explain from the beginning.

That was really my biggest goal when I purchased the brother's share of the site... I wanted to give members a personal touch... I want to reference people by first name as well as screen name... when people donate, I want threads saying THANK YOU (SPECIFIC PERSON), etc etc....

This is getting way off topic and starting to confusing. The admin and mods are here to keep the peace and inevitably it is their call. Remember popo had a cooling off ban before so he knows how it feels. Love it or hate it all communities need rules and someone to enforce them. Popo has done his best and stepped up to the plate when the site needed saving. IMHO all of this stuff is childish. Comparing the sale of hoodies to corrupt politicians makes no sense. Bitching about the price of a car or the trustworthiness of a person is just plain stupid. There is nothing wrong with having a civil club with members that man up and help. Other sites with drama suck and I am too damn old to deal with it. Please let us stop talking about this incident and leave it to pm or email. Time to move on...

I really hate to keep this discussion going but since you don't want to drop it and move on, I think it's fairly simple to clarify it with an analogy. If I go on another site and see someone trash talking Michigan FBody (my site), you can bet your ass that they'll be banned on my site if they're already a member. If they're not a member and I ever see them register, I'll ban 'em the moment I see them register. If someone's going to publicly trash talk something I put blood, sweat, and tears into then they're not welcome on my site. And I'm sure Larry and Sean both feel the same about LTxTech. That said - When Larry showed the staff his signature on LS1Tech bashing our site here, I applied the same feelings - if someone wants to create a signature on another site bashing ours, then don't let the door hit him on the ass when the ban hammer gets dropped. Pretty simple in my honest opinion.

Now - you've said it numerous times yet you keep coming in here to restate over and over again your disagreement on it. Drop it and move on. The two parties involved (Larry and Dave) have already moved on, let's all do the same. It's obviously a difference of opinions, and the back and forth discussions about it are not doing anything constructive.

I give Larry credit for creating the thread and asking for constructive criticism. I've been running MiFBody since 2005 and I don't believe I asked people the same question because I take things way too personally. I'm sure Larry and Sean feel the same way - but my site is my baby. When I see others talking critically about my forum, site, members, content, etc I feel like it's a direct attack on me individually. It's hard when you commit so much time, money, and energy into something to not take the criticism personally.

If I'm not mistaken the site and the Facebook page are owned by the same individuals and therefore both are considered "the community". What the owners choose to do with their sites and the information and posted and hosted on it and the people allowed (or not allowed) is their business. I'm sure no decision to remove a comment or ban an individual is taken lightly. This has been mentioned already and I accept that it is true. My opinion is you've brought this up not as being constructive, but destructive. I'll finish with a short story as an illustration.... I have a friend who was arrested at 18 years old for retail theft from a major retail chain. As a part of their policy he is no longer allowed in any of their stores worldwide. His story is he had mistakenly places items he was planning on purchasing in his coat pocket and forgot them at the register. Their story is he had been stealing from them for months. Now I had known this person for years. He was not a thief. But the law deemed him as such and he paid for it. About 2 years ago, (we are 30 and 31 now) we were passing through the town this happened in when we got a flat tire. Being the only store in town we went in to buy a can of fix a flat (junk, horrible shit). Well it just so happened the guy that did the undercover security recognized him. Obviously, he was asked to leave. Although bullshit in his eyes he understood and gracefully left. I however was faced with a moral dilemma. Do I cause a scene for bullshit petty theft and make an ass of myself and walk my fat ass 10 miles to the next town for what I need to get the car running or do I keep my mouth shut and buy the damn can of fix a flat and go home?

I think the majority of threads that have been locked are the ones where the conversation turn from technical to personal. I agree that a good heated technical thread is good in the sense where both sides are passionate about their way of doing things or opinions and everyone can learn from more info. But when people start flaming each other the thread has turned worthless it needs to end.

I agree.. and most times when threads have been locked... they have gone so far off topic, or the attacks have gotten out of hand... that it just needs to be handled, simply by shutting it down... and maybe even starting fresh.

in all seriousness though... this community is great. There have been bumps along the way but inall it is the only forums besides my dead one i go to anymore. The LTX community IMHO is like a family. I don’t know exactly what Larry is talking about for sure above ^^ but I do know some stupid shit has transpired lately... and that sucks.. we do not need drama here.. go elsewhere if you are full of shit, a shit talker, a drama queen, a liar, a cheat, a crook, a douche,etc... There is absolutely no shame in not knowing everything and asking questions. there is no shame in not having a single digit car. If you don’t know your ass from a hole in the ground and your car runs 15's don’t act like the opposite is true. The community does not need bad info, liars,and cheats. AS the cars get cheaper they are getting picked up by younger people and that in itself is not a bad thing.. it is good to have new generations picking up the old cars. We all had to start somewhere and learn and we did that by asking and observing others. The thing that sucks today is all the posers(to use an old skateboarding term.) It is awesome if you have a nice street car, or a full race car, or a show queen. There is no reason to pretend otherwise. Back in the day sandbagging and shit talking was just that and hard to prove, but now with the internet and forums a lot of info about you is out there. For the record, my car is not fast and i don’t know everything. I have been in the LTx game for only 11years. Before this car i did own an 11 second DSM and a 11 second 62 impala.. not fast by any means today. I grew up and wanted a quick street car that looked good and showed well and that’s all i have now. My 87 TA is being built for my kid, it will not be fast.. BUT with all the work i have done on cars over 28 years i can add to the conversations if I have experience. I don’t post info just to stroke my ego. I do post pics of my cars and shop and shit to show I am devoted and deep into the hobby.. again not to stroke my ego. SO, don’t bash Larry now just cause he drops the hammer on the bullshit. Remember we banned him before.. and he learned. He,Sean and Brain stepped up big time when this place almost died. Recently a few members have said some really nice things about me...to me. At the same time ive had several post some pretty shitty stuff about me. We have em... and on occassion ill notice actions taken by them...but for the most part they are not that active. Im not speaking negatively about the ones we do have...and we had more... but "life" has happenes and many of them are just 2 busy. I do get it tho.

Meissen has his site to run..and when he is asked for help here ...the guy is FAST. But with a soon to be growing fam...his forum and activities... plus work and life... I know hes 2 busy. Fastbird has a crazy work schedule and is burnin the candle at both ends most of the time... plus kids...family... etc.

I disagree totally with whoever said the site has been ruined. This site has defiantly changed since you took over but I believe for the better. Our members are a community rather than a group of strangers. The same cant be said for many other car forums.

The emotional reaction shows that you care and are passionate about this site and the membership here.

Thanku... it is because I am very protective and passionate about the site. I would rather have less members...but have members that want to be here. I love our gtgs because I know... it is gonna be a great bunch of people. Hell. The dyno days have people from all over and the LTx demeanor overtakes everyone and for one day its not shyt talkin and bashing and lts are boat anchors...its great people having a great time.

You are also right about the mods and to be fair what I do in the mod/admin section is occassionally create a post addressing them to see who will respond... when they dont... I have just pulled the mod power. Many of them pm me weeks later and explain that they wanna help... but "life happens" and like I said... I get it. But then my own fault I dont go searching for more...and rather I just try to "police" everything myself...which is what I believe jams me up with what snm was saying...

I wanna post and be a member... but yet when i get pissed I sometimes over react and yet im not allowed to have a debate as a member because when I do, I get comments bashing the way Im an admin/owner... like I have to be an owner or a member... I cant be both.

I know I have my downfalls...and I do pull the reigns. Many things I wont or cant explain as to why I do them... sometimes its because of info i recieve from a reliable source that offends me due to its disrespect for this community...and I make rhe best decision I can. I will tell u that MOST of the time I will go to the other admins before making a decision...because im usually so pissed im ready to hit the nuke button... but ive jumped the gun in the past and reversed hasty decisions that I made.

I wont name names... but there are 4 people by name on my mind that have said it... or posted it on other sites or fb...etc... putting me down...know thay they blocked me and I would not see it... but others have screen shotted it and brought it back. I let it go and dont follow up... but with as much as this site and community means to me...im not to proud to say...it does hurt me. But I move on because I come back here and see the people we have...

I see the people who in a night put enough money together to save another members car from repo sale... the site has NOTHING to do with putting that together ...this community did.

Nope, lol. I can name 5 guys that don't post anymore over THERE because of one particular guy. When they don't post over there they simply don't post much at all anymore, and soon after, you'll rarely hear from them. Ellis, FASTFATBOY, Tony S, Gump, Mike V, etc. There are a few others too. You just have to dig up a shootout thread from 2011 or 2012 and read though, and you'll see names that you haven't seen in quite some time.

Well guys i can't speak for anyone but my self. I still talk to kyle(dawdaw) from time to time as well as trying to check in here as least once a week. But work/life has been very busy over the last few years and with my cousins suicide just a few weeks before the 2013 shootout. I have pushed the car to the back burner for a time to concentrate more on being happy with my life/self. But we have recently started back on the car as time permits. the cage and floor is now painted. We are going to be rewiring the car and going the the pcs dash logger so it will be a while before its up and running. Also my coworker is getting his ltx squared away and hopefully he can start making passes soon. I have tried and will continue to try and get him to make the trip to bg but i know all to well the cost/sacrifices to go racing so i cant blame him or anyone else for not making the trip.

I never did join any of the other forums because of the crap. There are way too many people out there just trying to cause drama and talk about how fast they are on a keyboard. I spent about 3 years getting on this site and looking around before I decided to join. I've learned a ton through the search function. Larry I think you're doing a great job here or I never would have joined. You've commented that you care a lot, take things personally, and want to please everyone. To be a good leader (which is what you are by running this site) you have to do all of those things and still be able to function at the end of the day. I think you do it well and commend your dedication. I don't know how you have the time to be on here as much as you are but is shows just how much you put into the site. I've been around racing and crewed a few cars in my years but never owned or driven anything fast. I say that to point out the comment about single digit car owners not being on here often. If you search its pretty well out there. This power plant has been out there long enough there's not a whole lot new to learn. The only thing I have not seen on here as much as I would like is OBDII tuning info. I have found more here than anywhere else though and it could be a matter of I haven't searched enough yet. I get on in cycles and sometime go a month or so without getting on and searching anything. Life keeps us all busy. Now that I've skidded off topic I'll finish out with keep it up and thanks for the big welcome when I joined. I hope to be able to come to an event some day and post a build thread when I go turbo.

So, nice to see how much you and Co owner and Admin. Have done making an LTX FAMILY out of the members on hear. I can say since I have been a member. I feel that there has been such a helpful group of people that is dedicated to the LTX platform. I have learned so much from members and guidance that I have started to gather part for my ultimate fourth gen that I have dreamed of since I was six. So I have to say Popo for positive advice as well as many members on different LTX areas. This is a thread that has been up for awhile.

Popo8 you have keep this site respectful to everyone and they are able to post and not bashed by follow members for a question that redundant or common sense for LTX veterans and maybe not for a newbie. I like that you have not tolerated bashing or bulling. This is no place to be in mature. This is a great place for everything for LTX. You can still have the "low tolerance for bs" and still allow non registered users to view content. They can't post without being registered or signed in. If it was a privacy thing, restrict viewing access to the lounge area and allow the technical areas to be open for viewing. If it helps people find the site, what's the harm?

Analytics give you an idea on how your website is used, what it's used on (ie, mobile, desktop, mac, etc) as well as the demographics.

It's creepy the amount of data Google Analytics will give you - I've had it enabled on my site [MiFBody.com] for years. I joined this site when the old admins really left it in a craptastic state and the site kept crashing. Since I was familiar with vBulletin they made me an admin and I've been able to stabilize the site and update it as needed.

If you're looking to *volunteer* your time, Larry Sean and I can discuss, but none of us are paid for the work we do on the site.

It's a known bug with Chrome and quick reply editor for vBulletin 4. Unfortunately, vB4 is no longer supported so the vBulletin staff refuse to issue a patch to fix it. I upgraded MiFBody.com to vB5 thinking it'd be good to be on the latest and greatest and it basically killed my website :lol:
