96 SS M6 3.73's
385ci
TFS as cast (unported heads)
BRE cam
T76 Gen 1 Header kit (first style header kit I made)
Megasquirt for fuel

RWHP: 520
RWTQ: 520
Boost: 13psi

He needs AI or LE to get ahold of those heads... plus a little more tuning.

Track results:
7.2 @ 98mph with a stick shift :)
YouTube - my turbo camaro at the 1/8 mile

The race shop guy thinks it's getting spark blow out.

Update as of 12/15/08

He took the car to the track again (1/4 mile this time). He has tranny issues and fouling plugs, but other than that he did OK for a manual tranny and launching with 0psi.

11.13 @ 127.6mph w/ 1.55 60' while having problems shifting into 4th gear.

Here is what he wrote:

"1.55 I pulled the 1st plug after that race b/c the car was backfiring down the return lane bad. That one was white like it was REALLY lean. It was too hot to pull any other plugs. I'm thinking that some of the injectors are not firing correctly causing some cylinders to be WAY rich and foul those plugs, and some to be way lean. However on the wideband everything looks good because the lean and rich are canceling each other out by the time it gets to the sensor. I made one more run after that and ran 13.1 @107 full out and seeing 13psi on the gauge so I was running on like 4cyl."

Get those heads opened up and that power will take a HUGE jump. Those TFS heads as cast are barely equivilant to LT4's. Opened up they're knocking on RR AFR's door.

What's the rest of his setup though? Something about the numbers isn't sitting right with me.......

That sounds low even for box stock TFS heads. I would think that a BRE cammed 385CI LT1 with a 76 at 13psi would be putting down a fair amount more power. How much more I'm not sure, but more. Honestly if someone just rattled off that combo to me without any numbers I would be thinking somewhere in the 625-700 neighborhood, but maybe that's not realistic?

Who's doing the tuning?

Any photos of the car?

For the power he's making he should be running a better ET also...maybe its just seat time.

Yeah, his numbers seem a little low. He said he still needs to do more tuning and he thinks he was getting spark blow out. I don't recall his other mods as of the moment... just what was mentioned. He is doing the tuning.

I have another customer with a log manifold T76 kit with ported stock castings making 574rwhp @ 11psi, so I expected him to be in the same ballpark... probably 600rwhp @ 13-14psi... and more with the TFS heads heavily ported.

It is the white SS

7.2's is pretty good with a manual tranny... but it was his first time to the track with the turbo setup.

That's a really sharp car and a nice looking setup for sure. I'm sure he'll get it to come around with time, it definitely doesn't just happen overnight. Good luck to the owner!

Just saw the video last night. That thing rolled out HARD from the line. I think there's a lot of potential, and some bugs to work out at the same time. He really needs a set of heads on the thing.

he needs a driver mod...lol foot on floor shifting shaves a good bit if the clutch can take it. i know it makes me smile my car could have taken that with a stock motor 6 speed and 150 hit. :D with 175 i should have almost bit the 9 off a 6.99

He is a good driver, just first time to the track with the turbo and couldn't get the right tire pressure. He is at zero boost off the line b/c there is no load on the motor. He launched off the limiter at like 6600. He has a regular twin disk w/ steel flywheel.

He definitely has an issue with the motor/tune... after that run he was backfiring down the exit lane, then he went low 13's @ 107 full tilt on 13psi the next run. Something ain't right.
