View Full Version : New Best at Atco Track Rental - 2nd Annual Race Wars

Long day yesterday but it was a good one. This is the second track rental I've organized for the NJ F-body group and I think its safe to say it was a success. We had a lot of nice cars come out and even a couple vettes to mix things up. Most guys were running 10's with a couple really quick guys running 9's in street cars, rowing a 6 speed. I've been slowly working on my setup and while it's certainly not a track rat, I do like to take it down the drag strip at least once a year. I was one of two LT1 cars there. More seat time and tweaking will be needed. Below are some of the highlights including a few details for those unfamiliar with my car.

97 TA Vert WS.6
383 fully forged LT1, LE 21 deg heads, LE mild blower cam, LE stock ported intake (built in my garage)
F1A procharger, 15lbs of boost, touch over 700rwhp
Tick Lvl 3 Trans, McLeod ST Clutch, S60 rear
EFI Connection 24x LS PCM Conversion
Strange DA coilovers front, QA1 DA shocks rear, UMI chassis mount adj tq arm


"Race" weight was 4095lbs with me in it. She is a full weight vert for sure...plus some with the DD subframes and 6 point Wolfe bar. My big issue is simply getting out of the hole. I can work on the shifting a bit but that will get better with more seat time. Most runs were in the very low 11's, all over 131 mph and with a 1.85-1.95 60'. The car would either bog down to 1500rpm or spin if I was past 4k. Best of the day was a 10.8 @ 133 with a 1.72 60'. On the 10 sec run, it spun briefly and then hooked while at 3K rpm. I can't wait to see how this feels hooking up much higher in the rpm range. It's picking up 30mph in the last 1/8th so the car is making good power. I'm guessing there is a few more mph in it with a much better launch and a little quicker shifting.

cool vids man. thanks for sharing. ive been thinkin about joining the club and gettin a go pro too but not sure which one i should start with.

Good stuff man. I'd like to see us line up at the shootout. You're coming off the line harder than me but I'm picking up 35ish on the back half. Really like how you clicked a 10.8 on that 1.7 short time. Very nice results man, especially with the weight of the car.

If you don't line up with him soon, I will be trying out shamu come spring. You are a manual as well?

Good stuff man. I'd like to see us line up at the shootout. You're coming off the line harder than me but I'm picking up 35ish on the back half. Really like how you clicked a 10.8 on that 1.7 short time. Very nice results man, especially with the weight of the car.

That would prob be a good race. I think with that better launch and being able to leave at a higher rpm will net me a couple more mph down track. Each time I spun, I let out briefly to hookup. Felt pretty awesome when it grabbed at 3k and booked it in boost. Motor will take more boost but I need to get it hooking up first before I try and force my pig down the track harder.

No, shamu needs all the speed you can give for the jump to the sea.

Edit: and then you can get a chute and we can redub your car operation dumbo drop.

How quick are you getting into boost out of the hole? My next time at the track (god knows when.....with the move to Ft. Wayne in Jan Muncie is gonna be the closest) should see two step boost launches.....that oughta get it outta the hole a little better. My 11.58@134 was on a 1.99 short time and picked up 36 MPH on the back half. If I can just get it off the line better......

LMFAO!!!! OMG that's funny! Wow!!! And yeah, I'm a six speed too.

He's a funny guy for sure. Sadly he has no idea what 11s feels like. :)

Me and my bros, they all have 700hp cars, they all running 11s.
