I know there is some managers and or "bosses" on the board... I got told today that my being a veteran will look more favorably on an application than staying in school for another 2 years and getting a MBA. I have 8 years being in the military and also work full time and school full time. That all being said since I have gone this far on a full ride and would have to pay out of pocket for the MBA would it be wiser to get the MBA as a resume padder or go for a job and get the MBA online or class by class while working my way up? I am sorta burnt out on school currently, but I know that education is never a bad investment and according to the old adage if you dont do it while your young you will probably just keep putting it off. So if you had the choice who would more likely get the nod for the job a guy with a MBA but no real concrete real world experience or the older candidate that is a vet and has juggled work and school for 5 years but only has a BA. Also would you help the vet work towards a MBA if he was hired or just let him do that on his own. I know the market is down all over but I am just curious on the general feel or consensus.

For me, OTJ experience is better than a piece of paper saying you have a degree in xx. With experience, you know how to physically do the job, where as some guys with degrees know how to do it on paper but not in the field.. On the other hand, a lot of companies won't hire based off of work experience alone.
I know this first hand. Several jobs I've applied to, I was turned down for because I didn't have the required degree/ level of education, but have certifications and experience in the same field of work.
At the same time, my wife has her MBA in Ag-ed, a BA in Biotechnology, and a minor in animal science and gets paid the same as a first year teacher while having 5 years experience.

I agree with GreenZ96. It really depends, though, on your industry. To get my job at GM, I had to have my bachelors degree. They offer tuition reimbursement and encourage people to get their masters, so I'll probably do that now that I'm at GM and they're paying for it.

If you can get your MBA......do it. You'll go farther and higher faster than with just a BA.

And here I thought this thread was going to be about "Mallory Billet Aluminum" vs. just regular "Billet Aluminum." Shows you where my mind is.......always on the mechanics of it. lmao
