Any one who runs a turbo hotside thats not coated, any thoughts on wrapping it?

I have my hotside coated in POR15 black velvet but I am a little hesitant to trust it, and was thinking of wrapping it.

That's really all I have. I did not wrap the primary tubes due to clearances and plug access. Mid, up, and down pipes all got wrapped. Heat in engine bay is tolerable.

Ok, I guess I will hold off on wrapping the headers pending how brave I feel.

FWIW I tried wrapping my headers, but found that doing the individual tubes was going to look like ASS when it got to the merge collector, so I left them unwrapped.

Yea I was looking at my driver side header and it looks horrid to wrap. I am only concerned with the POR15 stuff flaking off and looking like ass.

Prob throw it on unwrapped, run it as is, and buy a SS hotside from Jon next winter. :D

My whole hot side it's wrapped. Doesn't look bad and worth it too keep temps down.

have you looked into ceramic coating?

Looked into it, and decided to not do it because I was in a rush/poor.

Ironicly, no LT1 build is fast or cheap.

Looks up NIC industries air dry ceramic coatings. If you have a hvlp gun and compressor you can do it yourself. Get the satin black.

I plan to ceramic coat my hot parts but re-wrap them also. Keeping under hod temps down as much as I can.

i didn't think you were to wrap once it is ceramic coated? i heard it will cause it to flake off faster or something like that. i wrapped mine after the coating got baked off on the dyno and the wrap works better then the coating ever did

Nope. My srt has a coated and wrapped o2 housing. No flaking on it. It really depends on how good the coating is.

x2 , x2

I have customer who say the stuff Ive thermal / ceramic coated YEARS ago. (5 , 10) still look great.
Cars that do the long haul on the power tour etc. So not garage queens that don't get miles put on em.

Its just like a paint job. Its only as good as the prep done to the substrate.
