im having some troubles with my 93 camaro. the key is stuck in the ignition in the key on engine off position. i can turn the key to the cranking position and it will crank but wont start. the key will not come out of key on engine off. i also noticed i no longer have to apply the brake to shift out of park. the shift linkage is connected and seems to be working. i cant push the car around in park but when i put it in neutral and it moves around just fine. its an auto. i appriciate any input because i have no idea what to do. i live on some property and its completely gated in so im not worried about anyone getting to my car, cant even see the house unless your in the yard.

Seems like there are a few things that aren't right. Have you tried wiggling the steering wheel back and forth and trying to turn the key to the off position? Your battery is going to die pretty quick if you can't get it to turn off..
How long has the key been stuck in it? Does it crank normally or is it slow?
I can't remember if I absolutely had to push the brake to shift out of park when I had an auto or not.. but as for moving while in neutral, and not moving in park, that's normal.

its been sitting for about a month and a half this way. i disconnected the battery so it doesnt drain it. it cranks normal but wont start. the steering wheel is not locked and i have tried giggling the steering wheel back and forth. i mentioned the moving in neutral and not in park so people would know my linkage is working correctly as far as i know. the center consol says to apply brake to shift from park and ive always had to do so until now. thanks for the help, im just out of ideas. im sure its more than one problem. i think i should just get a camaro that works and swap parts over

As SchaefZ28 stated try moving the steering wheel back and forth wile trying to turn the key. Take a look under the dash where the brake pedal is. See if the brake switch is broken.Do your brake lights work when you push the brake pedal? You should have to push the brake in order to remove the key. Also try removing it in every gear. P,N,OD,D,2, and 1.
OOPS, just saw you posted that you tried moving the wheel left and right. Disregard that.

A month and a half? Wow, I would have started taking stuff apart by now, lol. Sorry I can't be of more help. I can't see how the key being stuck, the car not starting, and the gear select working without the brake pedal being depressed are all related.. Make sure to check the switch behind the brake pedal like 95impyss said, there should be two switches back there if I remember correctly... It's been a few years... It would make sense if a switch is broken - if it acts similar to the clutch safety switch on manual cars (car won't start without clutch pressed in).

Try this: http://shbox.com/trans/park_lock.html
I found it when I was looking for something else, and thought it might be of some help to you if you still haven't got your key out.
