well i am sure some people are wanting to see the final verdict from my expereance with Clayton Racing (Corey Clayton).
Pros- Corey is a real easy guy to talk to and truly dose know his stuff when it comes to this platform. As expected the quality of the engine is TOP QUALITY, it really dose look like a work of art. for the parts that where used in my build there are no other shops i talked to that could touch the price of Clayton Racing. i went through the short block when i received it and inspected it with a finetooth comb and it is all perfect. i am still trying to figure out how to put in in to words on how nice this engine is and i still cant.
Cons- Really there is only one con....Time line....i stoped at his shop on 3 Jan 2012 to drop off my block and paied up front, at that time we had agreed on a delevery date in the begenning of July (when i would next be in the area) 7 months should be more then enough time to get a short block done. total time ended up being 10 months (3 months after an agreed date).
Finally as i put in the title i would grade as a B+ or 4 out of 5 stars.

What exactly did he do different than other competent machine shops?

i was not saying any thing about the work he does just his business practices are questionable at best.

Yeah the work he does is top notch and I have yet to see anyone produce the quality of work he does for the price he does. Down fall is it does take a long time and he got overwhelmed by engines going out throughout the world. Yes people do come to him from everywhere. I know for a fact that any left over builds or parts ordered are the last he will be doing. He has basically closed up shop and has moved on to other things that he has always been doing behind the scenes. What people didn't understand is they think this was a big shop and lots of people working there. It was basically him and his dad. They did have a huge shop a few years ago but it still was only the two of them. They had sold that shop and moved into his dad's huge garage where he used to build the top fuel cars back in the day. I am happy to have had both my engines done by them and will miss the days of hanging at the shop hearing all his dad's stories and the knowledge he his given me. I only wish that others could have got a chance to see what went into an engine build there and the attention to detail they put into each and every motor they built. Those that have been lucky enough to get a motor done by them will all say the same thing.... words can't describe it. And always the it took a long time. Then they fire it up and drive it, and somehow that bad feeling of the length of time becomes a distant memory and forgotten.

^^^exactly what happened with my friend John. Engine is immaculate, and the price was great. But the timeline was horrid. Corey used a lot of unexpected parts in the build ie: a zz4 roller block, and then threw in a $75 engine cradle. The cam he spec'd was a beast too.

I purchased an engine from Corey. I cannot seem to get him to contact me back with his current phone number. Anyone have an alternate number for him or his father???
Thanks,
LS.

I also had corey build my engine. Seemed to do an amazing job. I had it build by him a little over 3 years ago and no problems yet. I have been trying to contact him by the phone number and email I had but with no luck, does anyone still have his number that works? Thanks

he has closed down his shop and is now building/tuning for a large performance shop in the Chicago area. to what i understand Clayton Racing got too big and it lost his "fun" in building at that volume.

that sucks, he did an amazing job for me. i will have to find a different builder... is he tuning as clayton racing by chance? i have a buddy looking for a tune, if corey can tune half as good as he can build an engine that would be cool!

i don't think he is doing any tuning on the side. but hes working for Nickey Chicago. so who knows, you may be able to get dyno time with him. but its a real high end shop and probably expensive.

The dyno at Nickey is for their cars.
With that said, he still has the same number but does not answer during the day. He is very busy at Nickey and has been the tuner for them for a long long time. He stopped doing engines on his own and focused all the builds and tuning over a Nickey full time. He does do some work in his free time but usually for close friends.
He does build one hell of an engine and was selling all over the world. He does do tuning as well but that usually gets done at another local dyno. He so just had his first baby so I know his free time is few and far between.
All I can say is leave him a message and see if he calls.
