Im gonna eventually install my lt1 into my Monte. All I really need is the harness and and ecm. I'm in the process of building the engine, been moving at a snail's pace. I want to use my 700r4, but wondering if the 4l60e is a better choice. Is like to hear opinions on that. Anything else I'm missing? I have the engine and a 700r that's in my car now. What else will I need? Thanks.

As far as I'm aware that would be it roughly. Electric fans probably

As far as being stronger that one is up to opinions, i think they are both pretty weak until properly built.
If you can get a harness for a 93 that uses the 700R4 along with the 93 throttle body for the kick down linkage i would go 700 but any harness 94 and up use full electronics for the trans so a 4l60e is a go..
Honestly i would ditch both and go with a T56 set up.

I can help with the harness if you want. If you are going to stick with the ltx pcm I would stay OBDI (which the engine already is.) as stated before both trans are weak, if you were to purchase a new harness from me it can be made for either transmission. You just have to decide if you want to run a kick down cable or not.
If it were me in your shoes, I would
1. keep the 700r4 and get the required 93' components
2. figure out the harness whether it be a new or redone factory. even though factory harnesses are getting HARD to come by.
3. Drive it till the wheels fall off!

Why not use a 200-4r? That's what I'm putting behind the lt1 in my 85 ss. I'm actually pulling the old engine/ trans out now.....

i believe the t56 would be more fun and easier to swap overall

Unless you go 4l60e or 93 harness/ecm with 700r4, you'll end up having the ecm programmed for a t56 and it doesn't matter what trans you run. 6 speeds are fun but if the 700r4 is already in good shape and he's not going to over power it, cost wise it would be wiser to run it.

I would find a fuel tank and sender from a newer G Body that had the fuel injected 4.3L, then you can run an in tank fuel pump.

What's the benefit of running an in-tank pump verses an in-line pump mounted on the frame?
Noise would be my guess. My Dad has a 64 Impala SS and 85 Monte Carlo SS that both have LT1/4L60E's in them. Both run external pumps and you can hear them if you listen for it. They aren't really loud but they are constant. Whereas an intank would almost be silent with the engine running.

I would say the advantage would be life of the pump and ability to grow with future upgrades. The factory fuel injected tanks have baffles to keep the pump surrounded with fuel. That keeps the temperature down and the pump doesn't have to work as hard as a rail mounted pump that is pulling fuel from the tank rather than pushing it. And it is quieter on most cars. Once you have it all wired and plumbed all you have to do is step up to a bigger or better pump as your build gets more agressive.
