Ok my guru detail friends I have one for you, hopefully somebody has the cure for my Z.
I have this film stuff on my entire car that comes off the paint easy enough with polishing compound but will not come off the windows.
Here is the list of stuff I have tried so far to get this crap off.
Denatured alcohol, CLR, Acetone, rubbing alcohol, Windex, Ammonia, Brake cleaner, Carb cleaner, Lime away, White polishing compound, Blue magic metal polish and finally the only thing that workas AT ALL............ Razor blades.
The blades takes forever because this stuff is crazy hard and makes it really hard to see out of the windows especially at night.
I am at a total loss here and short of replacing all the damed glass in my car I have to get this resolved and soon, for now I can roll down the side windows and see but the Bay area rain will be coming soon and I cant drive it like this.
I can post up pics of the glass if that will help?

Have you tried lacquer thinner yet? It breaks most things down just be careful not to get it on your paint

I was gonna suggest that as well, but I had concerns for people that are not familiar with the potency...

Try pressure washing your car with really HOT water. Make sure to rewax afterwards though

....don't burn the paint off stay about 5-6 feet away and wave it in short increments. Spray the windows hard though

I have tried the lacquer thinner thing on it as well as hot water but forgot to mention it, I will post up some pics and yes this stuff is hard as a rock.
When I scrape it off with a razor it looks like white powder and even buffing it with a buffing machine and white polishing compound doesnt touch this stuff.
I can take it right off of the paint easy enough but the glass is another subject.
I wish regular paint was this tough!

I got the car from my neighbor last year for free and I do not know where it was parked during the day but this stuff looks like hard water spots but the CLR would have taken at least some of it off.
I also tried googone and that did nothing as well.
I will post up some pics later so you guys can see this stuff.

11642Here is a pic looking out the side window at the mirror. The glass does not appear to be de-laminating its just coated with this film on the whole car.

If it is... its the glue left over from removing cheap window film....

No its on the outside and you can see it where I have scraped it off with a razor, that little bit off of it took me 10 mins!

try a glass polsihing kit or high speed rotary buffer with a wool pad and meguiars diamond cut 2.0. Also waterspots will come off with newspapaer soaked in vinegar. Then put the newspapr on the glass for a while. I got the spots out of all our old cars that way.

that looks like someone's fucked up tint job to me. Though if that is what it is, that seems odd that that would be all over the whole car. Unless maybe it got seran wrapped with something at some point...

It really does look like tint adhesive though. And if that's the case, a razor blade may be your best bet, though a couple of places online suggest using ammonia and windex, a razor and fine steel wool

I am going to try the newspaper thing too next and yes it does look like a tint job gone wrong but I have delt with that before and it was nowhere near this tough to get it off.

I am going to try the 000 steel wool next, thanks for all the help and I will be sure to update this when I get it done. BTW Larry do I get extra point in the contest if I get a cop to join LOL? I met a CHP officer today and he has a Camaro Pace car that is a low number so I got to talking to him about it and told him about the site so hopefully he joins up. I even thought about making up some business like cards to hand out with the info on them if that is ok with you guys? I told him that wee need more west coast members so come on over.
