My dad has a 98 blazer (4.3) that has been giving him fits. He thinks it may be the ignition switch, but wanted me to see what you guys thought. The problems it has are not starting, and the headlights will not work. He noticed that the ecm1 fuse is not getting power and thinks this may be the source. Anyone care to help try to figure this out?

When you turn the key to the acc/run position do the dash lights come on? This is the bulb test. If none of the lights come one then your best bet is it is the ignition switch. Sometimes the lights will still work, but if the security light does not stay on and it still does not even try to crank then I would say it is your ignition switch.

The security light stayed on the other day, but now the only thing that lights up with the key on is the seat belt, and battery light.

Would the ignition switch affect the headlights? They do not work either.

I dont have the diagrams for the 1998 blazer, but I would say that the headlights are also controlled by ignition power, which would initially come from your ignition switch. Just hard to say what exactly is wrong with so many things not working and not being there to check it hands on.
With that said-the majority of the time when you have a mass ignition power failure it is the ignition switch.

Thanks for the advice. I think we will try replacing the ignition switch and I will let you know if this resolves it.

Another dead giveaway is, when you turn the ignition swith and it dosent start, do the power windows work. Radio funkey?

In all honesty you should post a thread in WWW.s10forum.com since a lot of those guys have had many things happen and found solutions.
I think it is the ignition switch, if it is save yourself the problem and get it from the dealer........ I had to replace mine a while back and I got one from autozone it failed to work I went to the dealer and purchased a GM model and no problem. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/09/07/6ege3e7a.jpg
