I got a check engine light on 3 weeks ago, P0174. It's for bank 2 running lean. I cleared the code and it just came back yesterday, I cleared it again, didn't come back yet.

The code came on both times on the highway doing about 60.

Here's what I replaced the first time the code came on...

-Ran STP Fuel Injector Cleaner
-Changed Fuel Filter (Black fuel came out of it, thats how bad it was)

Ok, so it didn't come back so I thought it was the fuel filter. Well, it's back.

What do I replace now?? It's a 1997 Firebird 3.8L v6. Thanks!

Do you have any mods done to it? IE headers, or exhaust? When was the last time you changed your O2 sensors? Does it run fine otherwise?

Everything is stock besides the muffler and tail pipes.

It does have an exhaust leak but it's on the driver side (Bank 1) so I don't think that should make Bank 2 run lean???

I never changed the O2 sensors. It just had a complete ignition tune up though about 2 or 3 months ago. Plugs, wires and coils.

Can a dirty air filter cause bank 2 to run lean? I didn't check it in awhile because it's a bitch to get to haha...

Yes, it runs fine but, it feels like it has loss of power when you first start the car up and try to go like after getting gas and pulling out onto the road it just feels like it loss power but it comes back after you drive it for about a minute or less.

Things like a fuel filter, air filter, etc, and going equally affect the motor. I'd look for an exhaust leak in front of the O2 somewhere, or at the O2 itself.

I'll check the air filter tomorrow. I just replaced the fuel filter. I'll also check for an exhaust leak on the passenger side.

Ok, I went for a job interview today and got some data using this data logging software..

Semi-Warm start for the first piece of data, got there, waited in line for like 5 minutes, I needed two ID's... I only had one. So the second set of data is on a hot start.

I didn't bring the laptop with to go back but when I was leaving (an hour later), it didn't wanna start. It idled rough around 1000 then it was dieing so I killed it. I tried starting it again and it would just die. I popped the hood, cranked on the heat and let it sit like that for 10 minutes. Tried to start it up and it hesitated but I gave it gas and reved it up to 3,000. It was fine after I revved it a few more times. What's going on???
