Ok so heres your opportunity to brag about what you got, but heres the catch...youve got to supply pics to prove it.
Heres what i got:
-JL audio cleansweep (to retain factory radio)
-Factory Monsoon fronts (run off the Monsoon amp)
-PPI PC-250 2 channel amp
-Elemental Designs 7" subwoofer (x2) (factory sail panel location)
-PPI PC-275 2-channel amp
-JL audio 12" w6v1 suboowfer (in custom fiberglass box)
-Ipod input adaptor
my idea was to keep it looking 100% stealth but to sound high end. My future plans include a zapco 2 channel amp to run a pair of dynaudio components up front.

Nice install!
This is in my daily driver, but I have an Ice Cube 2.2 GHz Pentium 4, with 1 GB Corsair RAM. PC is customized with a remote power button and power LED up front. All powered by a 500 watt inverter. USB hub in the dash above the screen
Custom front end is Road Runner, with a tweaked skin. USB GPS receiver with iGuidance software. Cracks/hacks for iGuidance for easier use while driving.
I've been running this setup for about 5 years. The only updates I'm going to do is replace the inverter with a dc power supply for the PC, convert from desktop hard drive to laptop hard drive, and install my newer touch screen. My original one is getting worn out and it's not as bright as the newer one
These are some older pics, I'll try to see if I have any newer ones

I'm curious SnyperBob if your car pc has any overheating issues? I have a small pc that i built to do the same thing and I know my interior can get pretty hot. Have you had any issues?

I don't have overheating issues in my car. I have this setup in my daily driver that's a hatchback. So it's not in an enclosed trunk. My DD doesn't have A/C so I know it's been thru 'hell'.
Depending on your motherboard, you might be able to set your machine to shut down if a threshold temperature is reached for safety. I've been working with carpc's for some time and it's rare that people run into overheating issues.
If you are really worried about it, you can mount your PC in the cabin, rather than the trunk. Most ppl run the air conditioning or at least open the windows when it's really hot....so the cab will be cooler than the trunk

You can fit some of the newer slim style PC's into the glovebox. It doesn't get too hot in there, and with a little bit of ingenuity, you could probably get a cooling fan installed in the trim piece by your feet.

I am not a big fan of the rap or pop shit, so I went for a nice clean sound with enough clean bass to drive my heavy metal and I am happy with the results. Some of my stuff is getting outdated but it still works for me.
HU: OLDER Kenwood Excelon (I am not even sure of the model number ~5yrs old now :embarassed:)
Front doors: Polk MM Components
Rear Sails: Polk MM 2 -ways
Sub: Boston Acoustics G5 DVC 10"
Amps: Kenwood 4 ch., Kenwood 2 ch. (Sub)
Subthump Stealth Box
Subthump Amp rack
The only thing I have pics of right now is what is in the back.

thats a nice clean install. damn if your stuff is getting outdated then my stuff belongs in a museum. older stuff doesnt mean bad, in the case fo car audio, the older stuff tends to be better.

LS1Dave, how do you like those 7" subs in the sail panels? I have been considering these for awhile but not sure if I want to since I have a 10" already.
I have an MTX box with an Alpine Type R 500w RMS 10" sub on an Alpine 500.1 amp, Alpine CDA-9884 head unit, Alpine Type S 6.5" coax in doors (which will soon be replaced with Alpine Type R components on an Alpine 2/4 channel). Yeah. I like Alpine
ls1dave
09-15-2008, 11:32 PM
honestly, i love them, but i dont know if i could justify them with a 10" sub. I got a 12" so that i had enough frequency separation to cover a wider range.
i must say though, they are hardly viable as a subwoofer, but work great as low midbass drivers.

You can either fab up a mount connected to the tail light studs, or you can screw it into the body. Since I have LEDs in my tail lights and will never have to mess with those again, I just went ahead and attached 2 screws on top and 2 on bottom. The bastard isn't going anywhere ;)

I can probably still get you some good dimensions even with the rack installed. Let me try to measure it sometime this week and see what I can come up with. I'll look for some pics too, I do not know if I took any before or not.
On mine, I made some funky brackets that hold it on with 3 small nylock nuts on 1/4" Dia. studs sticking out. My sub has disconnects in the line and the box is just a normal slip fit (not attached), so all I have to do is pull the main fuse, disconnect the wiring from the terminals on the amps, undo the 3 nuts and the entire amp rack and sub will come out in about 15 minutes. Saves me ~64lbs all together when I need it!
So if all else fails, I will just measure the rack next time I take it out.
Sweet, thanks Ben. Your a Champ!

Nothing major with my system, and it's OLD too but works like a champ:
2002 Model Alpine CD/MP3 head unit -- 27 Watts RMS per channel is what drew me to this one.
Doors -- Infiniti Kappa 60.5i components
Sails -- Infiniti Kappa 6.5S 3 way Coaxials
Rear 1/4's -- Infiniti Reference 4" components
MTX Thunderform w/Thunder 3000 Sub
Alpine 200 RMS x 1 @ 4ohms mono sub amp
Cable for connecting iPod through Alpine D-Link connector
It's a simple system that gives a really good range of sound without distorting or anything. Plus, it's not a ton of extra added weight. :D

Sound dampening.... I installed a bunch. Also (not pictured) I have an exta layer of carpet insulation/padding in between the carpet and this stuff... 2 extra layers on the driveshaft tunnel. Also, (no pictures) I sprayed expanding foam in every nook & cranny I could find in the body to fill the resonating voids. Crazy?... maybe. Effective, definitely. (so glad I did all this now that I have dumped exhaust at the axle).

The box is from subthump.com. Its a "t-top box". Its a sealed enclosure and that gap in the front of it lets me still stick the t-tops back there in front of it when needed. Go ahead and rip on the sony subs if you like, but, they sound VERY good.
I normally have that mexican looking blanket covering that entire back area including the speakers to keep prying eyes off my stuff. I've had friends ride with me and make mention that the stereo sounds really good and later find out is was Xplod speakers and told me that was unexpected. oh well... I'm done defending my cheap speakers... hehe...

And finally, the Alpine CDA-9835
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p295/hyperzone/PICT1605small.jpg
I also, replaced the front speakers with infinity 2 part component speakers. installed the tweeters on each door just in front of the handle (sorry no pic). And the rear side panel speakers were changed out for pioneer speakers which I dont remember the model number or whatnot. Both front and back were very nice sets of speakers and cost more than both my subs.. haha..... no, seriously, they did. hehe... Completely removed and re-ran every inch of speaker wire to everything as well. getting into the doors was a bitch for me (anybody else have to fight with that?).

"getting into the doors was a bitch for me (anybody else have to fight with that?). "
Yep, I had the same trouble. It's an excercise in patience. I use an electricians fish tape to run the wires though making it a bit easier. I also used several Bud Lights for proper lubrication  !
One thing though....you spent all that time, money and effort to deaden the car properly, have a nice Alpine unit and JBL amp. What's with the Sony Xplod subs???!!! Gotta get some nice subs to go in there!! I'm just bustin your ballz a little...but seriously with as nice a job as you did, you need some better subs to compliment all the other stuff you did! Your missing out on the full potential of your system, especially after doing all that work. Nice job by the way!!

^^^ :D yeah yeah... honestly though, the sonys in this setup sound unexpectedly good. I'm not entering competitions and I'm not an extreme bass enthusiast but, I do like everything to sound very clean. I cant stand when one part over powers another (to much bass, no mid, ear piercing trebble... ect.). The alpine unit is awsome for my application. Its adjustable to isolate what frequencies play through what channels and what output levels to get it just right.

I'm sure they sound ok in that car. Hell, just about any sub would sound good on that amp, with that HU, and all that sound deadener! I think you'd be suprised what a better quality sub would sound like in there with all your other higher quality equipment. With the adjustability of the Alpine (I have the same with my JVC unit) you would really see improvement.
Like the T-Top Subthump enclosure as well. Good stuff!! For those who aren't familiar with that enclosure the slot in the front of it allows for him to put his T-Tops in there.
