SO i dropped my 02 escalade
http://img.tapatalk.com/ae31b287-3911-f327.jpg
off with the used car lot that i bought it from because when i bought it he agreed to fix a noisy wheel bearing...
The owner is awesome and even gave me a car off his lot to drive...
http://img.tapatalk.com/ae31b287-3920-fb6d.jpg
Anyways.... He called me when the garage he uses dropped my trk off.... So i drive down drop off the loaner and get in my truck... I pull out and almost get run over.... The truck just fell flat on its face....
I limp it back noticing that everytime i hit the brakes the abs is pumpin... And when i try to accelerate its killin power. I see the lot guy outside and tell him to go for a ride with me.... I show him that i have the leddle to the floor and the message center is lit up....
http://img.tapatalk.com/ae31b287-3c3c-cf97.jpg
(but at this part of story no abs lite)
Im a cop gearhead... By no means a mechanic... But i tell him my theory.... The sensor in the new wheelbearing is messed up and wheel speed is not being picked up... Finally while putting back the ABS light comes on... And the truck drives like normal....
http://img.tapatalk.com/ae31b287-3a68-a88a.jpg
Am i right about the issue.... It was not a problem when i dropped the truck off and it bugged out until the ABS light came on... Which if i understand right is when the truck figured out the problem and decided to start ignoring that sensor???
Well a quick scan showed "wheel speed sensor erratic."
Here is where i get pissed off... The mechanic shows up and drops off another car... He explaims that when he brought it back that it was doing that!!!!!! SERIOUSLY!!!!!! SERIOUSLY.... it was doing that and u dropped it off??? Like i wasnt gonna understand?
Anyways... Im hoping it was just a faulty sensor in the new wheel bearing.... Which i know happens.... And a new sensor or bearing will make it right.....

OMG. I D 10 T's. You fix a wheel bearing, you KNOW you're in there around the ABS stuff. It wasn't doing it before, but it is now. Instead of "hmm.....I must have done something, let me correct that" he pulls a "I'll just drop it off."?????? I'm pissed off for you bro! THat's 100% laziness and bullshit that gives true mechanics a bad name. That's some shady backyard shadetree shit. And you can quote me on that.

Thanku... Im glad i wasnt out of line being pissed.... And even worse... After scanning and finding the code... He goes in my glovebox... Pulls out my owners manual (greasy hands) and quotes something that says i need to have the comp reflashed.... The owner of the lot even gave him a look and said... Thats not what it needs....

Dude, if that had been me, I would have told that "mechanic" off and then politely asked the owner if it was cool if I took the truck to my mechanic and sent him the bill. That lazy POS is a huge liability for that lot owner, and if I were the lot owner, I'd be looking for a new mechanic pronto. That dude could have seriously fucked your truck up, caused you to be in a wreck, or killed you. To tell you the truth, if I was in any kind of shitty mood, that mechanic would have been lucky to leave there intact with all his teeth in place. That kind of lazyness and negligence is something I simply cannot tolerate.

THAT is some BS. I'd be pissed to. I'm guessing this "mechanic" doesn't have a lick of good business sense. Seriously- who wants that to be attached to their name?
Get it fixed and NEVER go there and let people know how shady this guy is.

Chevys/GMCs are notorious for the ABS wheel speed sensor problems... When I was a tech for GM a bit ago, I used to get at least 1-2 per day on warranty. Swap one wheel speed sensor or both, ship it.
Although, sounds like THEY did something wrong... and not a part being bad. But, it could always be one of the "bad sensors from the factory" on the wheel bearing too...

I just love it when people assume a vehicle "needs the pcm to be re-flashed!:( Most cases it due to them purchasing the least expensive parts to save a Buck to charge bigger bucks! What a JACKASS.......

Just a quick thought, that they might not have even plugged that sensor back in?

I thought it... and asked him straight forward if it was plugged in... even asked him if there was any chance they put a wheel bearing in it... that didnt have the sensor..... He swore it did,,,,

No pcm reflash needed just test or replace the sensor and check to make sure that the reluctor ring is ok too, also I have seen the wires getting chewed up and that giving the "sensor erratic" fail code as well.
Bottom line is that their so called mechanic needs to be replaced as well as the faulty part to ensure customer satisfaction LOL.

Well all I can say is that they had better make it right no matter what because this is a serious safety issue and should have NEVER left the shop until it was corrected, I would have never let it go home like this and would have had a technicians head on a stake over it as well.
OMG thats so funny cause I thought I was the only person that thinks like that and I drive my wife crazy sometimes because of some of the stuff I say like this LOL.
No bath havin dumpster divin married to his sister hahaha.

9:30 am I received a call from the dealer... he advised me my truck was ready.
Cleaned up... headed down, and met with him.....
He said the children of the corn mechanic guy tried just replacing the sensor, and it continued being an issue... so he had to get an entire assembly again, and that fixed the issue.
I was worried that maybe the mechanic douche pulled a relay to kill the abs issue (did it once to my friends 3000gt when I messed up his abs sensor doing brakes, when I was 18).... But I really have no way to check unless I try to lock it up and see if the abs works....
I was able to hit the stabilitrak button and watched that switch back from LIMITED to full.... so Im hoping its ok....
Thank You for checking in.... I forgot to update this...

I know the wiring is a night mare... the cold start is an issue.... and it has no AC... but I have all the faith in the world in that thing... even if it has between 90k and 250k on it

Back in the day.....the amount of wear on the brake/gas pedals were an indicator of miles on the body.

I'd just be guessing trying to read the pic. The area on the brake pad that you drag your foot over going from brake to gas was the tell tale piece. Look at the edge of the rubber pad. Compare to a few other known mileage vehicles. Guaranteed accurate within 100,000 miles lol.
