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

Don't think there is any difference on upgrades other than the 93 pcm had a chip that has to be burned to tune.

Is it a 6spd or a4 and if 6spd which one? If its an auto its supposed to be a 4l60, no e. There are lots of differences between 93-94 but I don't thing mods wise it will perform different other than tune.

Post pics and I'm sure a more knowledgeable member will comment

Don't let a 93 scare you away if it is the right car for you. Mod for mod such as headers and things like that you are making the same amount of power. The difference is the way you tune the car. With a 93 you need to burn a chip unlike 94+ you can flash the pcm. You can swap to a 94+ plus realativitly easy with a few hours of your time and purchasing the parts from a boneyard or on the fourms. We can walk you through that no problem and then sell your 93 harness and pcm for good money, probably break even

Bluebottlez invested in a megasquirt for his 93s on the fly tuning capability.... and FASTBIRDS turbo MONSTER is also a 93 with xfi fast stand alone.... there are options out there besides chip burning....

But if the build is common..... chip will be the best bang for buck

With speed density is basically open loop, and alot of OBD1 and 2 will tune in that also depending on the mod of the motor and tunebilty. And your using your IAT, MAP, TPS, and probably the CLT sensors instead of the MAF and the O2's. But on a side note in closed loop they do use a few of the Open loops maps (PE, Open loop temp vs load, and VE) also as a reference. I'd have to go back and do some refresher on it though. But that is kind of why there is more than one way to tune. Depending on the tuner you will see same end result done differnt ways.

I better quit now or it will be another couple paragraphs.....lol lets have a 12 pk and chat why dont we

i run a moates ostrich (chip emulator) for my tuning needs. All you need is a laptop, an ALDL cable and Tunerpro R/T. 1993 has a few unique things like the Chip and speed density, they use the spline drive non vented opti, the fuel rails are different than 94+, so is the intake, there were 2 different t56's. All i can think of now. It is an odball, but not much different. for that price i would jup all over it.

HEY GUYS THANK YOU FOR THE ADVISE THEY WAY SOME PEOPLE DESCRIBED OWNING A 93 IS ALMOST LIKE HAVING THE T-VIRUS AND THAT YOU WERE GOING TO BE HATING IT HECK I ONLY PAID 1300 AND THE OWNER JUST REPLACED THE OLD OPTI WITH A NEW MSD A FEW WEEKS BACK AND IT RUNS FAIRLY GOOD AND HOPEFULLY THIS IS THE LAST CAR I BUY FOR A WHILE THX AGAIN

The people describing as the T-Virus have merely been embarrassed by one at some point. Everyone knows the 93's were the quickest of the bunch. :D

Seriously, don't let it scare you off. It's simple to get things set up for on the fly tuning, you simply have to burn the chip and install afterwards. No MAF = no inlet restriction or sensor to really screw things up when it goes out either.

PCMFORLESS.COM burned me a chip. I think it was around $200 for chip and then $50 to get a re-flash if I make any changes. Don't be afraid, it will run good. Trust me, I know..:D My next move is a 150 shot and some stickies.

there is NOTHING wrong with a SD car many get scared away due to lack of knowledge... main thing with SD if you plan on doing mods in an extensive fashion you want to do it all at once or you will always be upgrading the chip unless of course you have your own chip burning capabilities.

The 93 seems to respond better to the mods. I've ran the same bolt-on mail order tune for 9 years

93's are just plain faster.;) Everything is just about the same as the later models. The 93 does have a different air injection routing if you are forced into smog legal headers. When you order aftermarket stuff, just check the year for the parts. Alot of them are 93-94 specific, opti drive being the biggest.

Hey Jay do you happen to have any $DA3 bins that are modified? I just started using TunerproRT and would like to compare some of the tables with 2 bins I have for my 93' Z28. I believe 1 bin I have is the stock bin and the other is the bin I read off the jet chip that the car had when I bought it. I am in the research phase of tuning and would like to see some good graphs and tables from good tuned 93's.
