My bearing clearances are around .003 on the mains. I have the standard melling 155 pump should I switch to a high volume standard pressure pump instead? I will be installing the Canton 7qt oil pan. Whats everyone's thoughts? Also what weight oil? Ive been told to keep using 10w40 Amsoil.

No power adders. 383 stroker ported polished LT4 Heads, intake, Solid roller cam. Longtubes, true duals. LTCC
Do you have a part number? Will that work with the canton pan? Whats an advantage of goin with a high volume compared to standard?

They don't make the pump I use anymore. I would stick with the pump you have. I std volume will supply more than enough oil.

I did the meldon high volume pump, and since I had oil feed procharger I did high pressure spring. With charger on it did 15-20 psi at idle and 40 psi in the rpms. But since I took it off it 30-40 psi depending if cold or warm and 45-50 psi in the rpms.
If its not too late I suggest the 10554 Select melling pump. Still STD Vol/PSI, but a much more robust casting. The three digit P/N non-select pumps have a bad history of cracking on aggressive builds, and with your 383 SR I would not risk it.
I have the 10554 with the bolt-on Canton pickup(023?) and Canton 242t pan and it all bolts together fine with proper pan clearance.

To bring this thread back up, but does the Canton 7qt oil pan clear a factory K-member? I returned an aftermarket pan, that did NOT clear the factory K-member..

I used a steps B&B pan on mine with a umi k member. We also used the same one on my buddy's 96 with the stock k member.

Only thing bad I can say about the pan was Full of slag from the welds. I had to clean it and tap on it and clean it and tap on it for a good while till I could get it to stop dropping slag out. I did have to shim the block up at the motor mounts a 1/4 to keep the pan from resting on the rack.

Get the pump that Puck suggested, use Canton's pickup. If it's the 242T pan it is a 6qt pan often mistaken for a 7qt.
