So in my mind i have decided that if some asshole decides to rear end me or i get into an accident and total my z i am going to be swapping the lt1 into a 2nd gen rx7..
Ive been slowly stowing away cash for a new rear end for my z but The other day while browsing craigslist i stumbled upon a 1990 rx7 roller.. I could get it for $500.
then ontop of that i found a never rebuilt lt1 block for $50...
Ever since i saw those two things ive been wanting to buy both..keep my z as a kick ass driver and slowly build up the rx7 roller on the side... im talking tub the rear for wide slicks, full 10pt cage ect. ect.
Then slowly buy parts for the engine as they arise on forums like this.
Im at a loss on what i want to do with the engine.. fully forged 355 with some BOOST or an N/A 396 stroker..
I've always wanted to get into the forced induction game but i know the cost is big.
after doing some research i am extremely surprised at the following of these rx7's! bolt in engine cradles for various v-8's, BOLT IN ford 8.8 and 9" rear ends, various swap headers ect.
id want it to look SIMILAR to this:

I dont know why but ive always had a love for these things..
anyways i guess all im asking is should I GO FOR IT? or keep my cash and keep building up my camaro?
all input is welcome!

Too each his own but personally I've always liked that bodystyle rx7 myself just never cared much for rotory engines. Lt1 swap would be cool. I've considered a miata swap in the past as have one member I just got a message from lol. I've considered a lt1 swapped 240sx s14 as well. 6spd setup to drift.... yeah very cool

I like the idea, but I prefer the look on the gen3 rx7's. Also considered a s14/lsx swap, but I'm fading in the car scene so that probably won't happen.

The land speed car me and my partners were building before I got out of it and moved here was an 88 with a 12.5 to 1 396 to go over 200 mph.

I have always liked this bodystyle rx7 because it dosent look bad and its very budget friendly. One day in the future i will own a gen 3 rx7 because I LOVE those but the cheapest roller i could find was 4 grand! cant afford that. lol! and wow 200 mph?! thats very impressive!
so, do you guys think i should go for it or keep building the z?!

To answer you personally I like the idea but what are you current goals with the z? If you want it more of a nice driver then build the rx7 because once you build so much it becomes more of a hassle to drive on the street ALL the time.

I have found that when you have more than one project at a time... one of them gets half assed or just neglected.
From now on, I am going to try to only do one project... get it to a goal (since they are never done) then move on to the next....

My goals for the z were a mid 11sec daily driver.. nothing too crazy is done to it.. just heads, cam, a single plane intake and some suspension stuff.
If I were to go through with this rx7 I would consider the z DONE. AS IS. Because I daily drive it as is and I love it.
The rx7 would be my project.. the car where on a random day im just like "I'm gonna take the rx7 out today" track it, take it to local shows and cruise nights, the shootout, hot dates ect..

I say call the z done where it is and build the rx7 personally but that's just my opinion.

If you single and don't own a home, build it while you still have time and money.

I have a very good friend who has done just what you are looking to do (except it is a boosted LS1 in his). It is a very good looking lightweight platform to put a boosted motor in. Great choice!
(BTW, I think you should do this AND keep your Z...)

This car was stripped out and half built and thats why we got it on the cheap, the aero factor was also very good for high speed but stable as well.
I had to get the permission from my 2 sons to go with this crazy dream I had and they both said no until they actually saw the roll cage and all of the safety stuff going in to it, they had also been to several land speed meets at El Mirage Raceway with me and then they knew that I was going to be ok.

Sorry for the long time and no posting; I've been on vacation out in the sticks in Michigan and didn't have internet or phone service.
However over this weekend i have given this project lots of thought... and after I go take a look at it this week and verify that the body is straight and the car is in decent condition Im gonna GO FOR IT. You guys have convinced me. :D
I will be keeping the z regardless. It is/was my first car and I've talked to too many old timers who wish they had kept their first car. Besides, the z is badass ;)
The level of excitement I have for this upcoming project is ridiculous. lol, but the question still remains... keep it n/a or throw some boost at it?

Personally I say boost it but that's me. I think a single or twin turbo setup would be awesome. Look at my sig. Not my first car but I miss my formula and really miss my ws6. Although I finally found it after months of searching. Guy doesn't want to sell it yet but I'm trying to get him to join the site. Hoping if he decides to sell I can get it back.

Boosted ltx with a t56. Would be fun it that car. I slightly modded rx7 was fun.

I'm pretty stoked. Once the z is running good I will start a build thread for this thing!
