My car was egged last night and while cleaning it i found this:

The car has been painted twice (before i bought it) so its kinda hidden due to the under color being the same. Basically its a 12" crack with like a 3-4" square of paint that is completely chipped off above the license plate. Is it possible just to respray that area, or just the bumper? Ugh college towns...:(

okay thanks. yeah i was kinda suprised at how easy that stuff came off. i would use this as a reason to repaint the entire car (since i have some pretty bad spider cracking going on as well) but seeing as that I am in the middle of college a decent paint job would probably be out of the question. (those run into the thousands right?)

Someone hit that hard. The paint will only bend so far before it splits. How deep is that crack?

I'm with you... I refuse to get a good paint job till I'm out of school.
Probably a couple hundred to paint just the bumper... but red is a hard color to match...

I think the crack is only about a 1/4 to 1/2" in. The only local place auto body place around here that i found was maaco, does anyone have any experience with them?

They do an "OK" job. If your car was black I would say go for it with Maaco, because black is simple to paint. I saw a car come out of Maaco with a $750.00 black paint job, and it looked pretty damn good. I'm not sure about red though.

maaco hgas a shit rep, but ive seen some dcent paint jobs. theyll do the whole car for like 500 bucks. if you prep it wourself itll come out better. there good if you want a paint job to hold you over till you get a great one.

How much goes into prepping it? I have a month off for christmas and my dad might have the tools to do it. I think i would just have that panel redone and save the whole car paint job for when i have enough money to do it at a more respectable location.
