what happened in the #7 slug? drop a valve?

The coolant temps went up, blew a hose. The AF was 12.0 which is probably a little too lean with the 10% ethanol we have in the gas. Were thinking the EGT got high enough during a full throttle blast to cook a piston. A piece of piston came apart and dinged up the piston and head and peppered everything. It didn't drop a valve but it did chew up the piston pretty good.
