My buddy has a 96 Impalla SS that's blowing oil from were the dipstick goes in the block @ WOT. He said he's already replaced the pcv valve and checked the system. 180k miles and doesnt smoke at all. What else could be causing this?
Also....he has a hole in the big triangle intake cover and its sucking air. Can he just replace the rubber intake elbow with one from a z28 and do away with the whole thing?
Thanks.

Generally a dip stick being pushed out means an internal problem crank case is building too much pressure.
Yes an F body boot will work fine. Get rid of "homeplate" and Fab a cold air kit for under 60.00

If something internal was going on wouldnt it smoke? This car runs so good Im hesitant to believe the rings are shot, it doesnt smoke a drop.
Could it be anything else? Head gasket?

That's quite odd. Is it overfilled with oil? I assume the car is stock or mostly stock???
F body elbow fits fine. You can also use a hockey puck or the lid from a jar to seal the hole where Home Plate connects.

Yes its really odd. Were out of ideas so he's takin it to get a leakdown test today, everyone seems to think its the rings. I dont see how though because it doesnt smoke a drop!!

Maybe im oversimplifying... but has tge dip stick holder been removed and replaced recently?

The stock one was loose so we replaced it with another one that fits VERY tight. Still blows oil.
Took the oil filler cap off while it was running and its blowing a little air but not much.

Ok, I just wanted to make sure the o-ring and fitment was tight....

Im guessing if it could just do something as easy as pop the dipstick out to release pressure, it wouldent force it past the rings... Ya know?
Could be something a lot more simple than that, though... My first question would also have been "was the dipstick replaced recently?" but that was asked, and it has. But, if it fits REAL tight and its tough to pull out by hand, but it pops it out anyways.... Theres got to be some sort of pressure thing going on internally...
Again though, just a guess... Hard to diag something like that without any tests/actually seeing the car.

I just got done helping putting my neighbors 455 olds motor together, and heforgot to check piston to wall clearance and we took it for a drive yesterdayand it's doing the same thing (blowing oil out dipstick, fill neck, and coupleother seals).. the rings didn't get a good seal due to excessive piston to wallclearance which is causing the pistons to wobble, and is causing a ton ofcrankcase pressure... He just got a kit today that you weld into yourcollectors in the headers and it pulls a vacumn to the valve cover and fromwhat i've heard it's upwards of 10inches of vacumn at a high rpm (the more of afree flowing exhaust is best).. Odd thing the motor makes a ton of power, isquiet as a mouse, and ran bottom 11's on motor in a 4100lb car and driver anddoesn't smoke, overheat, etc..... I highly doubt your buddy's motor has pistonto wall clearances that are making it have crankcase pressure but it's apossibility. Hopefully you get your problem resolved
