View Full Version : HELP ME DRESS IT UP....

As many of you may know, it looks like the deal on my new ESCALADE should be finalized this week....(I have some Doctor appointments that may delay it....)
http://ltxtech.com/forums/showthread.php?18858-Thinking-of-trading-my-vehicle/page9
Well, I want to keep it simple, and I want to still set it off a bit. It is already tinted, so that is not an issue. The stereo may get a little attention, but I am not sure how much I want to do with that (Ill figure that out later.) Im not into the custom grills
http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k110/popo08/2005_cadillac_escalade_awd_navigation_custom_wheel s_very_nice_22971_bellingham_10956389.jpg
on them, although I just have not seen one that I like yet.... I always wanted big rims, but never wanted to look ghetto. With my Montero being more of that off road look, that was never an issue.....
Here is what Im looking for for help.....
-what color wheels? Personaly I like chrome.. and a big lip.....
-initially I thought anything over a 20" or 22" would be ghetto, but then I saw this
http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k110/popo08/Cadillac-Escalade--for-sale-custom-30630-953018.jpg
and I think I may be open to bigger wheels......
I really like this look... Im guessing these may be 24's or even 26's.
A little more searching, showed me these ...
http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k110/popo08/esc.jpg
...and now Im open to the idea of white with chrome lips....
I think you all should have an idea of the look Im looking for, what do you think????

THE CHROME! IT BURNSSS USSS!
Lol, I'm sure I've mentioned before I am not a fan of chrome anything, but I do think that chrome can and does look good on a white vehicle and to a lesser extent as accent on a black vehicle. And I do think the right rims would look sick on that escalade.
Having said all that, I think the rims on the silverado look ghettofabulous. They look like the rims that hood rats like to put on cars, and then I laugh at the ridiculously undersized brakes behind them. Not to mention the shitty ride because you have no sidewall to flex and absorb some of the shock.

As far as the stereo goes, do those have alot of other stuff built into the stereo? We have an 06 CTS and it has traction control, outside air temp, trip, gas mileage, avg spd, etc all in the factory head unit. I've never even looked into because it looked like a headache, but I am curious if there is anything out there than will retain all of those features and has an AUX jack. The precious, the precious chrome we luvs it we does. We must take him to her then we can has the precious.
Too little sidewall and its also easy to pop tires. Saw a Tahoe a couple weeks ago lose a 26 on the interstate.

Yea wheels and more importantly tires will have load ratings, dunno what you really need for a light car trailer but its something to keep in mind. A wrong load rated tire will void any warranty on it etc.

The problem with the chrome ones I think is how open they are. Just personally for me anyways. And I'm not sure about what they are but they do have load ratings. Just like racing wheels. Like how alumastars aren't really meant for the street.

Here are two that I think would fit a little better. The first one is a little more rugged truck looking (only a little, I did my best to stay away from the mondo off road looking ones)
And of course a time tested classic, torque thrust twos. Those and a mean set of pipes and you could have yourself an elegent ass kicker lol.
I'm still wading through the pages of that site. I'm on page 15, and those are the only two so far that didn't look totally ghey.
Also, I think the Demonda's on the first page could look pretty cool if they are color matched. I prefer a little more complexity in rims though, makes it a little more interesting to look at.
Also, I think you should get the truck first and go to a tire shop that stocks rims. A rim can look totally different in a picture than when it is on your truck. Another thing I have found, is that all of my vehicles have had "personallities". I tend to wait for them to tell me what they would like, at least as far as appearence goes. Even though they are sitting outside, they are right over my shoulder whenever I'm looking stuff up online lol
94Blackbird
07-23-2012, 07:57 PM
Another thing with newer chrome rims is the chrome will chip and flake off if the rim isn't steel. Chrome and aluminum do NOT mix well together. A friend of mine has chrome rims on his wifes truck that are less than 3 yrs old, and they are already chipped and cracked like no other. Personally I'd avoid chrome if you can help it or unless you plan on being OBSESSIVE about maintenance, and even then it might not be enough to save the finish

I do realize that there are other modifications that would be necessary to complete the look, but trust me, I have an eye for these kinds of things. That same site has chromed torque thrusts as well. I was going for old school class when I posted that. The reason people have a hard time seeing something like that on a cadillac is because people want to look pimp daddy hood rat and that's what's considered normal. Look at how well the rims I picked for Habu fit the look, even though they would otherwise be called "ricer rims" if there were on any other car

As for perfomance... it may get a slight drop in stance, and a CAI... but no loud exhaust... I want one vehicle that I drive to be quiet again....

Haha, we'll see how long that lasts. I lasted two days after I bought my current truck before I was ordering exhaust, tuner and a big airfilter for it lol. Those last ones your buddy has will look good. Its an in the middle size. I don't like the Solid looking rims with alot going on. And I cant stand the Thin looking spoke ones in 20+ sizes. They show way to much of the brakes. Unless your upgrading to 14inch vette rotors/6pot calipers I dont like ANY rim that shows stock brakes. :(
Great choice in SUV I take care of a few at work for customers. Never really anything wrong if you take care of em.
