Temp Guage going wild?

the temp guage on my 95Z is doing something a little wierd. i can start it, and it will idle normal but as soon as i get it over 3 grand the temp gauge will go ballistic and idle at the top of the guage, can someone help me?

Maybe the temp sensor wire got cut and is grounding or somthing? The vibration of the engine after 3k could be wiggling the wire loose out of the sensor too..
