high pitched noise coming from my laptop hard drive

i have an hp pavilion dv6 that i bought about 2 months ago and ever since it was new it makes this high pitched noise that is about 3 seconds long followed by a click sound. does this once, maybe twice in the course of an 8 hour work day. is this normal? or should i be worried about my hd failing in the near future? ive never heard a laptop make this sound before, just seems very strange to me that this would be normal.

my dell will occasionally do that. ive never had any issues with the laptop(besides the fact its a dell) and it never hurts to back up your hd to an external

yeah i always back up my files to my external to be on the safe side. good to hear im not the only one that has experienced this, must be a normal thing

Sounds like a cooling fan coming on and off
