Looking for advice on improving the times I saw.

94 Z28, full weight, shift kit, 4.56s, short tube headers, catback exhaust, no cat, moroso cai, crappy 275 40 (or 45) 17 tires.

Best run of the night was:
60'------- 2.091
330'------ 5.876
1/8------- 8.958
1/8 MPH - 79.91
1000'----- 11.605
1/4------- 13.847
1/4 MPH-- 100.08

Car consistently ran between 13.8-13.9 until it got dark out and than started seeing 14.0-14.2 passes. It spun off the line and the shift from 1st to 2nd. As it got a little colder/darker it spun a lot harder.

I understand the slower trap speeds cause of the gearing but should the trap speed still be a tad bit higher?

Rear shocks are beat, I plan on doing front & rear shocks while I'm at it. I'll be throwing on my Mickey Thompson drag radials. I feel like the 60' and 330' were pretty bad for such steep gears, think it's got a 13.4-13.3 in it with suspension/tires?

I got the car very cheap and as a bragging point I'm investing as little as possible into it. With shocks, tires and initial purchase I'd be in it for under $1,500 still. If I can cut a 13.4 or better I'll invest in a nitrous kit (already have a kit on my 350 vortec s10 so I can just snag the bottle warmer out of it). Looking to run a 12.5 or better on a 100 shot w/ shocks and tires. Would it be possible?

Too much gear. Drag radials should help the 60'. New rear shocks.

Don't spray it with that much gear.

there was a guy the other night with 4.11s and a A4 with a 100 shot with a 28 inch tall micky out back running 12.20@112 all night stock engine with bolt ons .

You will pick up more on spray with a higher gear.
The higher gear allows u to stay in the spray longer and pick up speed faster than a 4.10

Are you talking about a numerically higher gear? I'd expect a ridiculous amount of wheel spin with 4.56s and a 100 shot off the line and don't think the rear would appreciate it if I did get it to hook up. My trap speed seems a little low to me but then again I do have very low gears.

I'm kinda just experimenting with all of this. I have almost all my parts for a forged 357 with Trick Flow 185 heads, 236/244 cam and a built th400 but for bragging rights I want to see how fast I can get the car with stock heads/cam on as cheap of a budget as possible.

No im talking like a 3.23 gear

Alright I thought so. Just used to people referring to a numerically higher gear as being "higher".
Anyway, I am stuck with the 4.56s. I bought the car with them in it. It's fun for local roads and spinning the tires but that's about it.

Well best time I got with my stock a4 with intake and Catback I ran a 14.0 at 103. All I know is a, A4 with a 2500-2800 stall, long tubes shift kit, and 3.73s will run bottom 13.2s all night cause that's what my car was for a while

Go with the tallest tires you can. I'm running MT 275/60/15's 28in tall with 4.11's. I could go with 4.30's but that's about it.
Are you staying out of the water box at night?
Your trap speed isn't that far off for high 13's

With 3.25s & 235/60r15s I was running 2.0x 60's, 13.5 at 100, turned on the nitrous and that went to 12.6@110. I don't think your numbers are mismatched.
I got some 4.11's & 29" tires now and have yet to get back to the strip.

I'm not very familiar with racing. Didn't give tire height any thought.
It would make sense my times suffer because I hit over drive in the 1/4 while a numerically lower geared car wouldn't hit over drive at all. At least on motor, a taller tire might prevent me from hitting over drive or give me a bit more speed through the traps?

Would I see any improvement on motor with taller tires if traction conditions (worse case scenario) stayed the same?

Until you cure the traction issue it will be hard to see any improvement. If you have some drag radials give them a try.
Start at around 18 lbs of air and go down a little if you have to. I wouldn't go below 15 lbs. Stay out of the water box.
Dry burnout if you can.
