Im new on here and looking for some advice, but i have a 91 RS and i'm installing an LT1 in it. I have Everything, ENTIRE wiring harness, computer, intake, and sensors. The engine is ready to go in the car and im mating it up to my WC T5.

Ive deleted the A/C and the smog pump. Everything in the engine wiring harness is hooked up except for the C100, C105, C210, C220 and C230 plugs that go to the donor car's body harness. I assume most of this should be spliced into the 91's C100/C207 body harness.

I would like to retain the factory gauges, radiator, and fan. It seems that the LT1 C100 plug has fan control wires but I think they would be useless for the 91. The rest on the LT1 C100 and C105 are power to fuse and traction control and A/C wires. Does that mean the LT1 C100 and C105 plugs are useless and can be ignored?

So that leaves just three connectors left on the LT1 harness, C210, C220, and C230. These have gauge, ignition, fuel pump relay and other crucial functions.

Any advice or direction on wiring these would be greatly appreciated. I have a friend who is a mechanic working on it while im at work, but he wants to save me money on labor and also has regular work to do so im doing the research for the wiring. This way the car will be done sooner and i can enjoy it before i deploy.

Here are some pictures of the car. I picked it up for $3K and attemped a TPI swap on to a dying 350 that was poorly put into the car.

Nice looking RS! i use to have a white 92 Camaro RS 5 speed

I'll be keeping eye on this thread, looking to do a similar swap with my 91 Firebird.

In the thirdgen's they only offered 700R4 with 5.7 TPI cars because the T5 wasn't strong enough to handle the torque. You might need to look into a different transmission, like a T56 or 700R4, 4L60, 4L60E.

Theres lots of info on www.thirdgen.org (http://www.thirdgen.org) if you havent been there already.

I personally started with an 85 Z28 that was a TPI car. I bought the car and pulled the drivetrain and engine harness for another vehicle. After that the car sat for 3 years before I touched it again.

I used the LT1 engine harness to control the engine, trans, fans, and fuel pump. It is rather easy if you have the LT1 underhood fuse box. The fuses and relays are already there to control them. As for the gauges, I ran the third-gen sensors and wiring for all of them. The tach I believe is tapped in to the tach output on the ignition coil. My speedometer is manual and is not hooked up because of the 4L60e transmission. I would think you could still get yours to work properly without too much trouble.

I would check www.thirdgen.org (http://www.thirdgen.org) in the LTx/LSx Swap section. That is were I read most of my swap information and studied the wiring diagrams for the donor car and the third-gen.

Hey David,

My swap is almost complete. I have been driving the car for 3 months, however, there are lots of problems. I have a huge vibration issue. The T5 trans is in good shape as is the transmission mount so its not there. I found and replaced a missing motor mount bolt, but the mounts themselves are good. I have new plugs and a new opti, but the wires are old. I think that i have a 95 distributor on the motor which is from a 94 trans am. My friend said that will cause tons of running issues including my misfire and vibrations at idle with the car in neutral and clutch in. Once i drive the vibrations get way worse, especially in 3rd & 4th gear around 3000rpm. 5th gear is almost useless. The motor also will occasionally bog down at the same rpm and gears. I have both the O2 sensors installed, and all EGR and emissions deleted, blocked off and tuned from the computer.

Is there a difference between a 94 and 95 computer? the person i bought it from said no. And how did you set up the OBD I cause i have mine hooked into D29 on the computer (where my wiring harness has the correct wire according to all manuals), but most people on thirdgen forum say their cars had it in D30 where my harness has no wire.

My motor is a 94, the comp is 94 or 95 and the harness is 95. is this what is causing more issues? Id appreciate any help, thanks

Matt
