So, now that I have spent waaaaay too much money on my car. I need a better alarm. I currently have a Clifford Matrix 10.5x. Its about 100 years old. I am looking for something with a better range between the car and key fob. More accurate sensing and security. Looking for expand-ability. To add tilt, glass break and possibly proximity sensors. Or if its built in and accurate that's fine as well. Don't know how many hits I am going here but I figure its worth a shot. I plan to connect it to my train horns, as well as numerous strobe lights throughout the vehicle.
What do you guys and gals use in your cars?
Thanks in advance.

Whatever you do dont buy a python alarm... or atleast thats what i think its called. my buddys got one on his truck, on the most sensitive setting we can climb in the bed, jump around and shake the whole thing and the alarm wont even go off lol

There must be something out there that can be used in conjunction with a smart phone... that would be cool!

My local car audio place has radio commercials all the time that say they can do that!

I had a scorpio sri-500 for my motorcycle that was one bad ass little alarm system. it had tilt sensitivity, perimeter sensor, battery disconnect alert, and remote disable. It used a small lcd two way remote a little bigger then a key fob that you could use to disable the bike if any one got near it or even was able to start it and it told you what was going on or being activated. If it felt a voltage drop it would let you know and it had its own battery so pulling its plug wouldn't do anything. You could run any part of it in silent or on full alarm. I wish they made a car alarm system.

There are a bunch of good alarms out there. Viper is a leader and innovator. Directed and Avital are decent as well. Autopage works. The Viper and a few others do have smart phone apps that work in conjunction with the alarm system and are pretty cool.
Just to clarify though, a real car thief will take your car regardless of the alarm that is on it if they want it bad enough and it really is not a hard thing to do. Alarms are a deterrent not a fail safe way to keep your car safe. The days of guys being all careful with stuff are over. They break in and go. If you have a good alarm system, it might scare them off but generally they already have broke the window or damaged your car in some way. At least they don't get the car. That is the amateur thief though. For the pro, they pull up with a tow vehicle used for repos and drive off with your ride and the alarm going off. Most people will think just that...it's a repo, not that they are bold enough to be stealing your ride when in fact they are. When they get it back to the shop they can have that alarm out of the car in minutes. Most of these are not there to try and resell a whole car. It is parted out and sold on Craigslist and Ebay part by part.
Not trying to be a party pooper or anything but want to bring the reality of alarms to light. How many guys have walked by a lot with an alarm going off and looked but not stopped to take a good look. Most people don't even look sadly.
The new alarm systems have the LCD key FOB so that you get alerted immediately which is good so that you don't have to actually hear the alarm to know it is going off. It alerts you by the key FOB or by your smart phone with some systems like the smart start Viper system. It also allows you to GPS track your vehicle and know exactly where it is if someone does take it. The Viper Smart Start is an awesome system and I highly recommend it for someone who has a nice ride and alot invested. They run about $300.00 to which is nothing for the amount of features you get.
I know this is an old thread but the info I had on it could be relevant to someone out there looking!

There used to be a keyed valve that went inline of the braking system that you could turn the key to the locked position and then pump up the brakes so they were locked tight, forklifts have used this kind of system on them for years as a park brake but with a lever not a key. Just too bad I dont remember who made the one for cars as it looked well made and mounted inside the car like under the drivers seat. Kind of hard to steal a car with its brakes locked up tight.

Wow I forgot about this thread. Thanks for all the replys. I could only find a a couple alarms that were not built by Directed Electronics AKA DEI. They have bought out most major alarm brands. Clifford, Python, Viper, Automate and Avital. The are all VERY similar and owned by DEI. Even the part numbers are close to if not exactly the same as each other. I settled for a Viper 5704, $199.00 shipped. 1 mile range, 2 way communication, rechargeable key fob, and it will work with the rest of my DEI sensors. I understand the pros will just snatch the car. I always try to make it hard for them. Car has, 4 sirens, train horns, multiple battery's, strobes lights, hidden brain, tucked wires etc. Just trying to make the car as noticeable as possible if its messed with. I'll be out side in a heart beat if it goes off. I spent months fine tuning the sensitivity of my old Matrix 10.5 to avoid "false" alarms.
The cell phone app capable alarms require a monthly subscription service and an additional module added to the system. I'm still in the dark ages with my BB, so the smart phone apps don't work very well with my not so smart phone.
I REALLY wanted a CodeAlarm system, because they have a real panic horn honk system that keeps the honks random rather than rhythmic. But the lack of expand ability and not available on Amazon is what held me back. They only offered a built in shock sensor. :/
Madman337, I never though about holding the brakes on. I think I am going to really look into that.
Thanks for the input everyone.
