I bought a 96 trans am about a month ago with a blown head gasket. Yesterday I finally got everything back together on it and was going to do the oil change. I noticed the filter on the car was way smaller than the purolator I had bought for it and the filter mounting threads were way smaller also, so I took the filter back to advance and looked up the filter for the impala of the same year. Turns out thats the filter it uses, PF52. Could someone have swapped out the piece that mounts the filter to the block? I know its not a complete impala engine because the heads were aluminum.

Yes. They can swap over. I assume that your talking about the cooler. F body coolers have coolant lines that pump coolant to the adapter block to heat/cool the oil. The impalas have a cooler plate that bypasses the oil flow and sends oil to a oil to air cooler. Which is better IMO.

Yeah thats it. I was curious if they could be swapped over. Thanks for the quick reply!
