So after i made my over the rad style cai, it moved my IAT sensor down much further than the harness could reach. I ran with it un plugged for a few months. After finally getting around to extending the harness i got it hooked up and now there is some backfiring when i let of the gas, ususally much more common and loud when getting on it, never the less there is still popping and backfiring when decelerating/downshifting or just letting of the gas at almost any speed, any way my IAT could relate to this?.

There is a chance the car has learned to run without it. Try disconnecting the battery to reset the PCM and see if that helps any. Also, is the IAT sensor facing the right way in the air stream?

Relocation of cold air temp sensor sees colder air advances timing might be detonation not backfiring due to low octane gas.

Had 70 Cuda with 383 magnum 10+ compression would do that unless backed timing off or ran Aviation gas.

My IAT is relocated and the car always backfired and popped when decelerating like going down a hill or coasting and letting the engine brake the car. As soon as I pressed in the clutch or opened the throttle a little bit it would stop. I lived with it and the mail order tune for a awhile assuming it was just part of having a modified car. After having a dyno tune done it stopped, I don't know what Ed changed but he spend allot of time in lower gears accelerating and decelerating like city driving before he did any WOT pulls.

I usually only run 91 pump gas but ive been tight on cash this week so i put 5 gal of 87 in there to get me through... maybe thats it. As far as it seeing colder temps and advancing timing i doubt it. I live in az so it is constantly injesting 100+* heat.. also since it sucks air off the road i wouldnt doubt if it wad more like 120* air considering you can cook an egg on the street here lol.

And ive been thinking it was my mail in order tune! Wish i had money for a dyno session. Haha but what you described is edsactly how my car is. Ever try driving it with the iat un plugged? Thats what im gonna try today.
