Im pretty pissed right now. I been trying to find a new building to rent and we finally think we found one. Before we sign the lease the owner of the building wanted us to check the zoning laws to make sure we can actually use it for what we want.

So I go down to the local city hall and of course I get sent all over the place. Finally I end up in the right place and the people are hassling me and trivial crap but they come back and say its zoned as C-2. So I ask the women who has 4 city employes standing behind her what C-2 zone is defined as. Not one person in the entire damn room new what C-2 zoning incorporated. It is amazing to me that the city/state can write laws that no one even knows what they mean or incorporate at least until it comes time to levy a fine.

I think it should be a crime to write laws and regulations that the average citizen cant interpret on there own.its even worse that city officials cant.

We played Hell with our city before opening our business. Kept gettin.g different answers from different people.

The worst thing that happens to us was having to install a sprinkler and alarm system for fires. We were specifically told by the fire marshall's assistant, or whatever he was, that we were grandfathered in and didn't need one since we were moving into an existing building.

We had over $20,000 worth of work done when the fire Marshall himself stopped by and told us we had to habe it. That set us over $50000 over our originaL budget. We shut down for a while not knowing what to do but luckily found an investor with the money.

thats crazy.

It kinda is discouraging because I'm having to jump through all these hoops talk to all these people. My biggest fear is after i do all this are they going to come back and harass me? Am i going to spend more time dealing with the city and state then I am on the damn business?
